A new pen device for injection of recombinant human growth hormone: a convenience, functionality and usability evaluation study.
Adherence to recombinant human growth hormone (r-hGH) is critical to growth and other outcomes in patients with growth disorders, but the requirement for daily injections means that ease of use is an important factor. This study assessed the perceived ease of use and functionality of the prototype of a reusable pen injector (pen device) for r-hGH that incorporates several advanced features. ⋯ The prototype pen device successfully met its design objectives and was very well accepted by HCPs and patients/caregivers for its ease of use, appearance and functionality.

Clinical empathy with cancer patients: a content analysis of oncology nurses' perception.
Empathy is one of the most important communication skills in clinical practice, specifically in the field of oncology. Empathic competences have a significant meaning for caring and therapeutic relations in nurses' responsibilities. Clinical empathy brings positive performance, thus patients' emotions are perceived and expressed more easily. Clinical empathy is contextual, interpersonal and affective, but it is also difficult to study. Awareness of oncology nurses' perception of this phenomenon might help them to plan for more effective patient-centered consultations within interventional programs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the content of clinical empathy with cancer patients from the perspective of oncology nurses. ⋯ Clinical empathy as an effective strategy can be taught through three areas of "co-presence", "metacognition" and "perception" in the context of cancer care. Thus, clinical empathy should be considered as one of the competency standards which can be taught to oncology nurses.

The evaluation of pharmaceutical pictograms among elderly patients in community pharmacy settings - a multicenter pilot study.
The search for new ways to optimize the use of medications by patients has led the pharmaceutical community to promote the idea of introducing pictograms into routine practice. The main intention of pictograms is to ease patient adherence and to reduce potential risks or errors associated with the use of medications. ⋯ A majority of the designed and modified pictograms reached satisfactory guess-ability scores. Feedback from patients enabled modification of the pictograms and proved that patients have an important voice in the discussion regarding the design of additional pictograms.

Customers' preferences and willingness to pay for a future dengue vaccination: a study of the empirical evidence in Vietnam.
Dengue was endemic to Vietnam. Due to the lack of a readily available remedy, dengue vaccines (DV) have been used elsewhere to cure the disease. However, introducing DV in Vietnam has met resistance from society and the government, influencing decisions about willingness-to-pay (WTP) and other pharmacoeconomic studies. This research aimed to evaluate the extent to which Vietnamese customers would be willing to pay to vaccinate themselves and their children, if any at all, against dengue. ⋯ The WTP rates for DV were high, supporting the introduction of DV in Vietnam.
