Adenosine A1 receptor (AA1R) is widely present in the central nervous system, exerting brain protective antiepileptic effects, mainly by binding corresponding G proteins. We evaluated the neuroprotective effects of AA1R on hippocampal neuronal injury after lithium chloride-pilocarpine-induced epilepsy in rats. ⋯ AA1R abated cell edema and reduced apoptosis, exerting neuroprotective effects on hippocampal neuronal injury after lithium chloride-pilocarpine-induced epilepsy.

BURSECTOMY IN GASTRIC CANCER SURGERY: A META-ANALYSIS.
Bursectomy consists of surgically removing the peritoneal lining covering the pancreas and the anterior plane of the transverse mesocolon during gastrectomy. However, there are little data to indicate whether bursectomy has a clinical benefit. ⋯ Although application of bursectomy in radical gastrectomy did not increase post-operative complications, it offered no benefit to control tumor recurrence or improve overall survival.

Amebiasis is an infectious disease caused by Entamoeba histolytica. It represents one of the three worldwide leading causes of death by parasites and a public health problem due to its frequency, morbidity, mortality, and easy dispersion. ⋯ Our study showed that the synergy of Lactobacillus postbiotics inhibited E. histolytica HM1-IMSS in vitro growth under axenic conditions, inducing morphometric alterations in trophozoites' cell membrane. These results would allow designing strategies or treatments aimed at E. histolytica control in the future.

A global aging population requires focusing on the risk factors for unhealthy aging, preventive medicine, and chronic disease management. The identification of adverse health outcomes in older adults has been addressed by the characterization of frailty as a biological syndrome. In this field, oxidative stress and telomere length have been suggested as biomarkers of aging. ⋯ Telomere length could eventually be used as a marker to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy aging as expressed by frailty phenotype; oxidative stress seemed merely a biological process of aging.
