Recent investigations highlight the importance of the gut microbiota and bacteria-derived metabolites as key components in obesity and metabolic health. The microbiota-gut-brain axis presents promising targets for future obesity treatments and prevention. ⋯ Therefore, we sought to examine current evidence on the effect of lifestyle, dietary, pharmacological, and surgical interventions on the microbiota-gut-brain axis. In addition, this review highlights potential next steps in research toward characterizing the role of the microbiota-gut-brain axis in metabolic health, along with possible interventions to address obesity.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease with a wide range of clinical presentations. Lupus nephritis (LN) is a frequent complication of SLE, representing a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in these patients. In addition, LN diagnosis remains suboptimal in most clinical contexts. ⋯ Consequently, there are different areas for improvement in the field of LN, such as the search for novel non-invasive clinical biomarkers with an adequate correlation between clinical manifestations and actual histological damage. Although urine component-related studies are promising, the more robust blood/serum biomarkers may still be helpful in developing point-of-care systems that can be adapted to most clinical scenarios. Therefore, this brief review aims to highlight and summarize some of the most recently reported non-classical serum/blood potential LN biomarkers. (Rev Invest Clin. 2022;74(5):227-31).

THE EVOLVING HISTORY OF THE REVISTA DE INVESTIGACIóN CLíNICA.
The Revista de Investigación Clínica (RIC) was established in 1948. It has been published continuously for 73 years. ⋯ The RIC, since 2015 known as RIC -Clinical and Translational Investigation-, is currently a nationally and internationally recognized scientific journal. This article briefly reviews the most outstanding historical features of the RIC since its foundation.

I was the Editor-in-Chief of the Revista de Investigación Clínica (RIC) from December 1999-May 2014. In this article, I present a review about how I initiated my experience in the RIC as an author, how I became the Editor-in-Chief, the philosophy of the RIC during my time, the type of publications we had and the citations these papers have received today, the special issues and consensus we published and how the RIC became the official publication of the Mexican Institutes of Health.

Zika virus (ZIKV) has gained great importance worldwide since the past epidemic that occurred in 2015 in Brazil. Early identification of ZIKV is critical to minimize transmission and prevents potentially devastating consequences, including microcephaly in neonates of infected women, congenital blindness, or Guillain-Barré Syndrome. However, this is not an easy task, considering that approximately 80% of ZIKV infection cases are asymptomatic or oligosymptomatic, there are diverse modes of transmission (vertical transmission is through vectors and horizontal transmission through blood, saliva, semen, and urine from infected people), and the fact that ZIKV has a high identity percentage with other cocirculating Flaviviruses such as dengue. Here, we review ZIKV diagnostic methods, with special emphasis on the development of point-of-care diagnostic assays, since these devices commonly have two important advantages: they provide prompt screening and are affordable.
