Tooth pain is a common presentation in primary care, with 32.4% of Singaporeans experiencing pain from dental caries in their lifetime. Some systemic conditions can have oral presentations, and oral conditions may be associated with chronic disease. A good history and examination is key in delineating odontogenic from non-odontogenic causes of tooth pain. ⋯ Ibuprofen has been shown to be effacious, safe and cost-effective in managing odontogenic pain. Antibiotics are indicated when there is systemic or local spread of dental infection. Without evidence of spread, antibiotics have not been shown to reduce pain or prevent subsequent dental infections.

Laparoscopic colorectal surgery is increasingly performed worldwide due to its multiple advantages over traditional open surgery. In the surgical treatment of right-sided colonic tumours, the latest technique is laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with complete mesocolic excision (lapCME), which aims to lower the rate of local recurrence and maximise survival as compared to standard laparoscopic right hemicolectomy (lapS). ⋯ Our initial experience with lapCME confirms the feasibility and safety of the procedure.

A 46-year-old man presented with a six-month history of lumps in the sole of his left foot. Physical examination revealed two nodules, one tender and one firm, at the plantar left foot with no overlying skin changes. ⋯ There was no further recurrence of symptoms after surgery. We describe the clinical and radiological features of plantar fibromatosis and briefly discuss other causes of lumps and pain in the sole of the foot.

Paraquat (PQ) intoxication is frequently associated with a high mortality rate. No specific treatment has been shown to reduce mortality in victims within the first 72 hours. We investigated the protective effects of rapamycin (Rapa) against PQ-induced toxicity in a zebrafish model. ⋯ Rapa can increase the rate of survival of PQ-intoxicated zebrafish by inhibiting mTOR complex 1 and activating autophagy. Rapa could be an alternative first-line drug in the treatment of PQ poisoning.
