[Slow release tramadol in the initial treatment of moderate to severe cancer pain: open, multicentric clinical trial].
The analgesic efficacy of slow release tramadol in the titration phase of treatment of moderate to severe cancer pain has been demonstrated in clinical trials. ⋯ Tramadol slow release was effective in the titration phase of treatment of moderate to severe cancer pain with good tolerability.

Ectromelia is a congenital abnormality characterised by limb growth disturbances (aplasia or hypoplasia) during the period from 4th to 8th gestation week. ⋯ The aim of the complex therapy is to diminish the permanent invalidity of these patients.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is the most common vascular disease of childhood. It is a multisystem disease most commonly affecting the skin, joints, gastrointestinal tract, and kidneys, but other organs may be affected, too. Gastrointestinal involvement occurs in approximately 65-90% of patients, ranging from mild symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, to more severe manifestations such as gastrointestinal bleeding and intussusception. In most cases, HSP spontaneously resolves without treatment. The use of corticosteroids is controversial and usually reserved for severe systemic manifestations. Some authors suggest that the abdominal pain and gastrointestinal hemorrhage of HSP may respond to steroids, with some suggesting that there is a benefit in their use and describing a regimen. ⋯ Corticosteroid therapy with gastric acid secretion inhibitors showed a positive effect in our patient with a severe form of HSP accompanied by abdominal pain and gastrointestinal hemorrhage.

Clinically, labor (visceral) pain is extremely prevalent in general population, yet its mechanisms have been poorly understood. With development of new electrophysiological techniques and molecular biology technologies, our understanding of physiological bases of labor pain has been markedly improved; in that way possibilities for therapeutic modulation of labor pain are expanded. The aim of this study was to describe the new insight into this topic. ⋯ Fear, as one of the most frequent phychologic factors, does (not) provide good control in transmision of pain sensitization by descendent nerve fibers. Some of the candidates for objective pain marker are also described. This article outlines the factors that, based on the contemporary viewpoint, could reduce transmission of pain signals, and thus broaden therapeutic possibilities for modulation of labor pain.

In line with the fact that there is little information regarding drug facilitated sexual assault in national medical literature, the authors aimed to prepare a review of the phenomenon based on available international references. Therefore we offered a definition of the concept of sexual assault, and rape in particular. ⋯ There is also available information in regard to pharmacology of common data rape drugs, i.e. flunitrazepam, gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), and ketamine. We indicate the utmost importance of prompt collecting of biological samples for toxicological screening in patients who are suspected victims of drug facilitated sexual assault.
