Radiotherapy combined with platinum compounds in widely used despite unclear biological basis and mechanism of their potentiation. We started a prospective nonrandom study on January 1, 1991 with the aim to ameliorate local tumour control and possibility of curative treatment, and treatment of toxicyty.

The galeal-temporal flap consists of galeal aponeurosis and superficial temporal fascia. The goal of this experiment is the testing of the use of the galeal-temporal flap in reconstruction of defects of the maxillo-facial region and establishing of indications for the use of this flap. Over the period from 1989 to 1992 at the Department of Maxillo-Facial Surgery within the School of Dentistry, University of Belgrade, 15 galeal-temporal flaps in 14 patients who agreed with this reconstruction, were performed. ⋯ Of 15 used flaps in 12 patients it was completely taken (80%). Epithelization of the galea in the oral cavity was clinically verified between 9 and 14 days. Indications for the use of galeal-temporal flap in maxillo-facial surgery were as pollows: large intraoral defects, full thickness cheek defects, craniofacial deformities and scalp defects involving external bone previously treated by radiation, as the basis for the free skin graft.

Incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (6-76%) depends on diagnostic criteria. Seventy four paediatric surgical patients were analysed during one-year period. In the first group (with complications) pneumonia was the most frequent complication (86.95%) in 65.21% of newborns. ⋯ Mortality rate was high in the first group, where more than a half of children were newborns. In conclusion, pulmonary complications had unfavourably influence on the mortality rate and morbidity, particularly in newborn infants. This was the reason for a prolonged hospitalisation in the paediatric intensive care unit.

The most frequent complication of lumbar puncture is headache. It is due to lowered intracranial tension produced by a continued leakage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) through the dural puncture site. Epidural injection of autologous blood has been frequently reported as highly effective in the treatment of lumbar-puncture-induced headache, with success rates of 73 to 98%. ⋯ We have not observed any side-effects in our patients. Our results are in harmony with the published high efficiencies of autologous epidural blood patch in the treatment of postlumbar-puncture headache. We recommend the injection of 5 ml of autologous blood in the epidural space in all patients with severe lumbar-puncture-induced headache, resistant to conservative therapy, lasting more than 24-48 hours.

Glycolisated hemoglobin (HBA1c), fructosamine, glucose, albumin and total proteins were estimated 40 healthy pregnant women and 90 pregnant women with diabetes mellitus. Fructosamine was estimated by NBT method with "Fructosamine test" commercially available kit on Technicom automatic analyser RA-1000. ⋯ HBA1c was assayed by Bio-Rad test, while albumin and total proteins by Beckmman tests. We found best correlation between fructosamine and HBA1c at pregnant women who were on dietary therapy worst at pregnancy women on insulin therapy.
