Basal level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), and antral follicle count are used as predictors of ovarian reserve before starting ovulation induction. We aimed to investigate the predictor potential of early follicular phase FSH/LH ratio on controlled ovarian hyperstimulation-intracytoplasmic sperm injection (COH-ICSI) cycle outcomes. ⋯ In our population, increased FSH/LH ratio did not affect the rates of pregnancy and live birth negatively.

Crohn’s disease (CD) is a kind of inflammatory bowel disease. Midkine (MDK) is an endogenous inflammatory marker. We aimed to investigate the relationship between MDK levels and inflammation and hence determine whether MDK can be used as a noninvasive biomarker in active CD. ⋯ e report that there is an association between MDK levels and CD activation, and therefore with enhanced inflammation. MDK levels were significantly correlated with inflammatory indices. In line with our findings, we suggest the theory that MDK inhibitors may be useful in treating Crohn’s disease.

Body esteem (BE) is defined as the self-evaluation of one’s own body or appearance. The Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults (BESAA)consists of three subscales: BE-appearance, BE-weight, and BE-attribution. Though initially developed for adolescents and adults, the use of the scale has recently increased in health-related research on children. This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the BESAA for children. ⋯ The Turkish version of the BESAA can be used to measure BE in terms of appearance, weight, and attribution in children.

The aim of this study is to investigate clinicopathologic features of familial papillary thyroid carcinoma (fPTC) and compare them with sporadic papillary thyroid carcinoma (sPTC) in Turkish patients. A retrospective analysis of the papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) cases, with or without family history with a follow-up around 10 years was performed. ⋯ The results of this study confirms a more aggressive nature in fPTC patients, in terms of bilaterality, multifocality, ETE, LNM, and distant metastasis, compared to sPTC patients in Turkish population.

Deficient levels of vitamin D are an important factor in the pathogenesis of some neurodegenerative diseases. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and depression status and sleep disorders of patients on dialysis. ⋯ Our results suggest that deficiency of 25(OH)D is an important independent risk factor for poor sleep quality in hemodialysis patients.
