Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone malignancy that occurs frequently in children and adolescents. Baicalein, a flavonoid that has attracted great attention in recent years with its strong antitumor activity, shows a wide range of biological and pharmaceutical effects.MicroRNAs have been found to be involved in many critical processes in cancers. This study aimed to investigate the effect of baicalein and miR-25 on Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway of osteosarcoma cell line Saos-2. ⋯ These findings demonstrate that baicalein may target genes related to the Wnt/β-catenin pathway by regulating miR-25 expression and may be a potential Wnt/β-catenin pathway inhibitor for osteosarcoma therapy.

We aimed to develop a rapid method to enumerate Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) utilizing magnetic nanoparticle based preconcentration and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy measurements. ⋯ It is focused on the enumeration of L. monocytogenes in milk samples and the comparision of results of milk analysis obtained by the proposed SERS method and by plate counting method stay in food agreement. In the present study, all parameters were optimized to select SERS-based immunoassay method for L. monocytogenes bacteria to ensure LOD, selectivity, precision and repeatablity.

Comparative Study
Real-Life Comparison of the Viewing Angle and the Image Quality of Two Commonly Used Viewing Systems for Vitreoretinal Surgery.
To compare the clinical use, image quality and viewing angle of a commonly used contact wide angle viewing (WAV) system (Advanced Visual Instruments (AVI) Panoramic Imaging Systems, NY, USA) with a commonly used noncontact WAV system (Leica RUV800, Leica Microsystems, Switzerland). ⋯ Both WAV systems provided high image quality and adequate viewing angles in most cases. However, the contact system appeared to provide a superior image quality and/or a wider viewing angle in more challenging situations. The difficulty of holding the contact lens in place was found to be moderate.

The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship of the immune response mediator genes’ polymorphic loci (TNFA rs1800629, LTA rs909253, IL1B rs16944, IL2-IL21 rs6822844, IL2RA rs2104286, IL6 rs1800795, IL10 rs1800872, MIF rs755622, CTLA4 rs3087243, NFKB1 rs28362491, PTPN22 rs2476601, PADI4 rs2240336) variants with the methotrexate efficacy in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). ⋯ As a result of the study, the relationship of the alleles/genotypes of the IL1B rs16944, IL10 rs1800872, CTLA4 rs3087243, NFKB1 rs28362491 polymorphic lociand the TNFA rs1800629*A - LTA rs909253*G haplotype with the methotrexate efficacy in JIA was established (taking into account the differences by sex).

The aim of this study was to investigate the possible toxicity of the Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS) on the neural system. ⋯ No clinical or histopathological evidence for the neurotoxic effect of the ABS was observed in the present study. Our findings might precipitate the use of ABS on human subjects regarding medulla spinalis surgery.
