The firing rate of the mirror neuron system in monkeys decreases systematically with more repetitions. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the activity of the mirror neuron system varies based on the observed movement and the contents of the action, as well as whether there is inhibition in the mirror neuron system when humans observe repeated actions. If inhibition is present, the second question of the study is whether it is related to the organization of the observed action. ⋯ The findings of this study suggest that the activation of the mirror neuron system in humans depends on the content and stages of the observed movement. Additionally, there was no inhibition or systematic reduction in MEP amplitudes while watching a repeated action.

The common disease gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) has a high morbidity and mortality, so there is an urgent need for research to explore new diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets. This investigation was carried out to investigate the expression of sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase acid-like 3b (SMPDL3B) in GAC and its effects on tumor progression. ⋯ This study determined the function of SMPDL3B for the clinical diagnosis, prediction, and novel management of GAC.

Heavy-ion irradiation seriously perturbs cellular homeostasis and thus damages cells. Vascular endothelial cells (ECs) play an important role in the pathological process of radiation damage. Protecting ECs from heavy-ion radiation is of great significance in the radioprotection of normal tissues. In this study, the radioprotective effect of β-D-glucan (BG) derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae on human umbilical vein endothelial cell (EA.hy926) cytotoxicity produced by carbon-ion irradiation was examined and the probable mechanism was established. ⋯ Our results demonstrated that BG protects EA.hy926 cells from high linear-energy-transfer carbon-ion irradiation damage through the upregulation of prosurvival signaling triggered by the interaction of BG with its receptor. This confirms that BG is a promising radioprotective agent for heavy-ion exposure.

Cervical spondylosis is a progressive disease that causes degenerative changes affecting the spine, intervertebral discs, facets, and ligaments. With anterior and posterior surgical interventions, effective treatments can be applied in cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). The relationship between regional and global spinal alignment and functional and pain outcomes was examined and it was revealed that these parameters play a significant role in obtaining good results. The aim of this study was to compare the perioperative and follow-up results of patients with CSM who underwent laminoplasty or laminectomy with fusion. ⋯ Deformity in a spinal segment may indirectly affect another segment. Being aware of the compensatory mechanisms and radiological parameters will help in determining the effective treatment plan.

Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is one of the common causes of mortality and morbidity in newborns. Despite therapeutic hypothermia, an important treatment with proven efficacy, the morbidity and mortality rates remain high. The aim of this study was to neurodevelopmentally evaluate patients who underwent therapeutic hypothermia. ⋯ The time to start cooling is related to the neurodevelopmental outcomes of patients with HIE. The earlier cooling is started, the better the neurodevelopmental results. Despite therapeutic hypothermia, the neurodevelopmental development of infants may be adversely affected. These patients should be followed-up neurodevelopmentally for a long time.
