We have designed an adjustable bone plate (ABP) which allows bone shortening and lengthening after fixation, which is a property not present in any of the plate systems available today. The aim of the current study was to examine the new ABP's segmental bone transfer capability for the treatment of a segmental bone defect in an animal model. ⋯ We have presented the potential of a new generation ABP for use in segmental bone transfer in an animal model as well as for future clinical applications.

This study aimed to determine the proliferation and apoptotic effects of extracts from Cornus mas L. and Berberis vulgaris fruits on human breast cancer cells (MCF-7). ⋯ It has been determined that Cornus mas L. and Berberis vulgaris fruits, which are rich in phenolic components with high flavonoid content and high antioxidant capacities, support the apoptosis of cancer cells.

Craniocervical junction (CCJ) can be involved in inflammatory arthritis. We aimed to define types of CCJ involvement in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), spondyloarthritis (SpA), and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and compare them with patients without inflammatory arthritides. ⋯ CCJ involvement can often be detected in patients with inflammatory arthritis, especially in RA and SpA patients. The odontoid process is the main target of inflammation.

There are reports stating that deteriorations in metal homeostasis in neurodegenerative diseases promote abnormal protein accumulation. In this study, the serum metal levels in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) and its relationship with the cortical regions of the brain were investigated. ⋯ A relationship was determined between the serum metal levels in the AD and PD groups and certain brain cortical regions that showed volumetric changes, which can be important for the early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.

Postauricular linear basal cell carcinomas related to medical mask cords: a possible association.
Linear basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a distinct clinical morphological variant of BCC. Although it has been speculated that trauma and the Koebner phenomenon may be linked to linear BCC, the pathophysiology has not yet been shown. Herein, 5 cases of BCC were presented that developed in the postauricular region as a result of trauma caused by the cords of the medical face masks worn during the COVID-19 pandemic.
