Nodular thyroid disease is a frequent finding seen in patients with acromegaly. Ultrasound-elastography (US-E) appears to be a helpful tool for the diagnosis of thyroid cancer. The aims of this study were to evaluate thyroid nodules in acromegaly and to assess the diagnostic accuracy of US-E in detecting thyroid cancer in this population. ⋯ Thyroid nodules in acromegaly patients have a higher elasto score and the prevalence of hard nodules is higher in active disease. However, increased stiffness of nodules by US-E in patients with acromegaly does not seem to estimate the malignancy of the nodules.

: Needle electromyography (EMG) abnormalities in the trapezius muscle (TM) can be seen in neuromuscular disorders. The aim was to determine the characteristics of needle EMG abnormalities observed in the TM in neuromuscular disorders. ⋯ There may be more frequent needle EMG abnormalities, particularly in ALS patients and patients with SAN lesions. Since the number of patients with myopathy included in this study was low, it is difficult to comment on the needle EMG features of the TM for these patients. In addition, this study indicated that fasciculation potentials in the TM are typical in ALS patients and that MUAP may not be obtained from the TM in patients with SAN lesions.

Laminin-1 and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 may play roles in the progression from benign to malignant endometrium, so we aimed to investigate their levels of expression in these tissues. ⋯ Gradual increments in MMP-9 expression and basement membrane laminin-1 discontinuity may indicate progression from normal to hyperplastic and to low- and high-grade cancerous endometrium.

In low-income or underdeveloped countries with conflict and internal unrest, healthcare facilities and staff are limited. For these reasons, it is necessary to use the most straightforward scoring systems to ensure that health facilities and staff are used effectively and to expedite processes through early and effective interventions for patients. In this study, we evaluate and compare the scoring systems used to predict patient prognosis for Emergency Department (ED) patients in northern Syria, which is an area marred by conflict and internal unrest. ⋯ This study in northern Syria has shown that although RAPS had stronger statistical power, REMS had better sensitivity and specificity for the prediction of mortality. Additionally, RAPS had better sensitivity for ICU risk. This study will contribute to the evaluation of healthcare in similar regions and to cost-effective healthcare delivery by using scoring systems for ED patients' admission.

Retrospective analysis of effectiveness of fingolimod in real life setting in Turkey (REFINE).
During multiple sclerosis (MS) treatment different modes of action such as lateral (interferon beta to glatiramer acetate or glatiramer acetate to interferon beta) or vertical (interferon beta/glatiramer acetate to fingolimod) drug switch can be performed. This study aims to investigate the clinical effectiveness of switching from the first-line injectable disease modifying treatments (iDMTs) to fingolimod (FNG) compared to switching between first-line iDMTs. ⋯ The present study revealed superior effectiveness of vertical switch over lateral switch regarding the improvement in relapse outcomes. Patients in the FNG cohort experienced sustainably fewer relapses during the follow-up period after the switch compared the iDMT cohort. Importantly, switching to FNG was more effective in delaying time to first relapse when compared with iDMTs.
