This study describes ventral-approach augmented nontransected anastomotic (vANTA) urethroplasty and presents the preliminary functional results of patients treated with this technique. ⋯ In cases of bulbar urethral strictures, vANTA urethroplasty is an effective treatment option with limited postoperative complications. Preserving the underlying corpus spongiosum is important to avoid impaired sexual function.

Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is an extracorporeal treatment method that removes large molecular weight substances from plasma. In our study, we aimed to retrospectively examine the indications and procedural methods of the patients who had undergone TPE, and the complications that occurred during the procedure. ⋯ Since significant adjustments are observed in clinical and laboratory values in sepsis-MOF, which is in the ASFA3 category, we believe that it should be evaluated in the ASFA2 or ASFA1 category in the early treatment of these diseases. In addition, we think that MIS-C cases, which have not been in any category according to ASFA, should be included in the ASFA2 or ASFA3 category, considering our TPE results.

A significant correlation is observed between the course of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and body composition parameters including visceral fat quantification, muscle mass, and hepatic attenuation. The aim of the study was to investigate the correlation between the extent of lung involvement and various computed tomography (CT) parameters, as well as laboratory findings in COVID-19 patients. ⋯ In the comparison of the laboratory and radiological data in the course of COVID-19, white blood cell (WBC) and neutrophil counts increased, SMA T12, and the skeletal muscle index (SMI) decreased in the lung progressive group. Hemoglobin and CRP levels at admission may indicate disease progression. Future studies are warranted to increase the reliability with larger series.

There is limited information on the pathologic changes in the small airways among obese and nonobese patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Impulse oscillometry (IOS) measures airway resistance and reactance independently of patient effort. This study aimed to compare airway resistance in small airways using IOS between obese and nonobese patients with OSAS. ⋯ Among obese OSAS patients, there is an increase in resistance in small airways as indicated by IOS values. IOS shows promise as a potential screening tool for diagnosing OSAS.

Extracorporeal blood purification (EBP) therapies have shown promise as potential rescue treatments for patients with septic shock. However, precise evidence regarding their effectiveness is lacking. This case-control study aimed to evaluate the 28-day survival benefit of a resin cartridge-based EBP therapy compared to conventional therapies in patients with septic shock. ⋯ The findings suggest that administering resin cartridge-based EBP therapy to patients with septic shock may improve their survival compared to conventional therapies.
