Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialHeparin versus normal saline as a peripheral line flush in maintenance of intermittent intravenous lines in obstetric patients.
To compare heparin sodium (100 United States Pharmacopeia U/mL) with 0.9% sodium chloride for use in the maintenance of intermittent intravenous (IV) devices during pregnancy. ⋯ During pregnancy, dilute heparin flush to maintain patency of intermittent IV site devices results in the following: a greater catheter patency rate at 48 and 72 hours after insertion of the catheter, a lower rate of catheter complications requiring therapy, and no alteration in PTT.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialPostoperative pain after local anesthetics for laparoscopic sterilization.
To test the effectiveness of intraperitoneal local anesthesia in relieving postoperative pain after laparoscopic sterilization. ⋯ Intraperitoneal instillation of lidocaine-epinephrine combined with mesosalpinx infiltration of lidocaine during tubal sterilization produces effective, long-lasting analgesia and improves the postoperative course.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialAcupressure for nausea and vomiting of pregnancy: a randomized, blinded study.
To evaluate the effectiveness of acupressure in reducing nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. ⋯ Our results indicate that acupressure at the PC-6 anatomical site is effective in reducing symptoms of nausea but not frequency of vomiting in pregnant women.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialRandomized comparison of ampicillin-sulbactam to cefoxitin and doxycycline or clindamycin and gentamicin in the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease or endometritis.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ampicillin-sulbactam (3 g every 6 hours) in patients with pelvic inflammatory disease or postpartum endometritis using a randomized, comparative, multicenter study of parallel design. ⋯ Ampicillin-sulbactam is as effective and well tolerated as combination regimens using cefoxitin plus doxycycline and clindamycin plus-gentamicin for the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease or endometritis, respectively.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialPostoperative effects of fentanyl, ketorolac, and piroxicam as analgesics for outpatient laparoscopic procedures.
To compare postoperative analgesia and side effects of intramuscular ketorolac, intravenous fentanyl, and oral piroxicam on healthy women undergoing laparoscopic surgery. ⋯ Intramuscular ketorolac was associated with shorter recovery room stays while providing analgesia equal to intravenous fentanyl or the oral nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug piroxicam.
