Comparative StudyPre-hospital rescue times and interventions in severe trauma in Germany and the Netherlands: a matched-pairs analysis.
The aim of this study was to compare the pre-hospital treatment of major trauma patients with similar injury patterns in Germany and the Netherlands. ⋯ Multiple differences and some similarities in the treatment of major trauma patients with similar injury patterns were found but no clinically relevant differences in the chosen outcome parameters could be observed.

Traumatic cardiac arrest and resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA): a preliminary analysis utilizing high fidelity invasive blood pressure recording and videography.
Aortic occlusion (AO) increases proximal perfusion and may improve rates of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). The objective of this study was to investigate the hemodynamic effects of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AO by REBOA on patients in traumatic cardiac arrest. ⋯ High-quality chest compressions coupled with aortic occlusion may generate adequate perfusion pressures to increase the rate of ROSC. New technology capable of transducing central arterial pressure may help us to understand the effectiveness of CPR with and without aortic occlusion. REBOA may be a useful adjunct to high-quality chest compressions during arrest.

Burn first aid knowledge and its determinants among general population of Rawalpindi.
To assess the general knowledge and practices related to burn first aid treatment (BFAT) and to examine age, gender, socioeconomic status, education and previous history of exposure to burn (self/family member) as factors influencing burn first aid knowledge among the general population of Rawalpindi. ⋯ A significant limitation of knowledge regarding BFAT was seen among the general population of Rawalpindi.

Resuscitation with centhaquin and 6% hydroxyethyl starch 130/0.4 improves survival in a swine model of hemorrhagic shock: a randomized experimental study.
To investigate the effects of the combination of centhaquin and 6% hydroxyethyl starch 130/0.4 (HES 130/0.4) in a swine model of hemorrhagic shock. ⋯ The combination of centhaquin 0.015 mg/kg and HES 130/0.4 resulted in shorter time to target MAP, lower wet-to-dry ratio, and better survival rates after resuscitation from hemorrhagic shock.

A novel method to assess the severity and prognosis in crush syndrome by assessment of skin damage in hairless rats.
Crush syndrome (CS), a serious medical condition characterised by damage to the muscle cells due to pressure, is associated with high mortality, even when patients receive fluid therapy during transit to the hospital or admission to the hospital. There is no standard triage approach for earthquake victims with crush injuries due to the scarcity of epidemiologic and quantitative data. We examined whether mortality can be predicted based on the severity of skin damage so that assess the severity and prognosis in crush syndrome by assessment of skin damage in hairless rats because we have previously observed that CS results in oedema and redness of the skin in rats. ⋯ Skin damage is a valid measure of transepidermal water loss and severity of CS. We suggest that these models may be useful to professionals who are not experienced in disaster management to identify earthquake victims at high risk of severe CS.
