The factors that affect blood loss in intertrochanteric fractures treated with proximal femoral nail in the elderly.
Intertrochanteric femur fractures (IFF) is one of the biggest health problems in elderly population and mostly treated by proximal femoral nails. Although it is done in less invasive technique this method can cause higher blood loss than expected and subsequent allogenic blood transfusions. In this study, we aimed to investigate the factors that were related to the blood loss in proximal femoral nail fixation of IFF including patients' ongoing anticoagulant treatments. ⋯ This study demonstrated that ongoing anticoagulant treatments of intertrochanteric fracture patients did not increase the perioperative blood loss. The factors affecting blood loss in the proximal femoral nail fixation were BMI, the time to surgery, and fracture type in the elderly.

Neglected infected floating knee injury: evaluation of closed reduction techniques.
Floating knee injury is uncommon yet challenging problem. The situation is more complicated by presence of infection, open comminuted fractures, and late presentation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the closed reduction techniques by circular external fixation in a single stage to treat patients having infected neglected floating knee injuries. ⋯ Closed reduction techniques using a circular frame provided a valid treatment option for infected neglected floating knee injuries in one stage without bone grafting. However, the high rate of complications and the diminished knee range of motion should be considered.

Review Meta AnalysisEfficacy of tracheal tube introducers and stylets for endotracheal intubation in the prehospital setting: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Tracheal tube introducers and stylets remain some of the most widely used devices for aiding practitioners in performing endotracheal intubation (ETI). The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the efficacy of tracheal tube introducers and stylets for ETI in the prehospital setting. ⋯ Both tracheal tube introducers and stylets function as efficacious aids to intubation in the prehospital environment. Where video technology is available, bougies could offer a statistically significant advantage in terms of first pass ETI success. Where video technology is unavailable, a combination of clinical scenario, practitioner expertise and personal preference might ultimately guide the choice of device.

Review Meta AnalysisAlginate scaffolds improve functional recovery after spinal cord injury.
In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the use of alginate for the repair of the damaged spinal cord was investigated. ⋯ These findings suggest that alginate is an efficient scaffold for functional recovery and even a much better scaffold for drug/cell delivery after SCI.
