Observational StudyThe mode of delivery after operative fixation of pelvic ring fractures-a retrospective observational study.
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether retained hardware after surgical treatment for a pelvic fracture prior to pregnancy affects the choice of delivery method. The study aims to provide insights into the rates of vaginal delivery and caesarean sections, understanding whether the mode of delivery was influenced by patient preference or the recommendations of obstetricians or surgeons, and examining the rate of complications during delivery and postpartum. ⋯ Level III.

Identifying and addressing mentorship gaps in European trauma and emergency surgical training. Results from the Young European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (yESTES) mentorship survey.
European training pathways for surgeons dedicated to treating severely injured and critically ill surgical patients lack a standardized approach and are significantly influenced by diverse organizational and cultural backgrounds. This variation extends into the realm of mentorship, a vital component for the holistic development of surgeons beyond mere technical proficiency. Currently, a comprehensive understanding of the mentorship landscape within the European trauma care (visceral or skeletal) and emergency general surgery (EGS) communities is lacking. This study aims to identify within the current mentorship environment prevalent practices, discern existing gaps, and propose structured interventions to enhance mentorship quality and accessibility led by the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES). ⋯ Our survey underscores critical gaps in the current mentorship landscape for trauma and EGS in Europe, particularly for early-career and female surgeons. A clear need exists for more formalized, inclusive mentorship programs that adequately cover both technical and non-technical skills. ESTES could play a pivotal role in addressing these gaps through structured interventions, fostering a more supportive, inclusive, and well-rounded surgical community.

Tibial plateau fractures are associated with ligamentous and meniscal injuries. Preoperative evaluation of magnetic resonance imaging influences surgical treatment.
Tibial plateau fractures (TPFs) are usually associated with ligamentous or meniscal injuries that could remain misdiagnosed. An appropriate and early recognition may change the surgical management of these soft tissue injuries (STIs) that could be addressed concomitantly with TPF treatment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an efficient diagnostic test to identify all associated STIs in TPFs. This study aims to analyze the MRI impact in identifying and guiding the STIs treatment in TPFs. ⋯ IV.

Influencing factors for delayed diagnosed injuries in multiple trauma patients - introducing the 'Risk for Delayed Diagnoses Score' (RIDD-Score).
Delayed diagnosed injuries (DDI) in severely injured patients are an essential problem faced by emergency staff. Aim of the current study was to analyse incidence and type of DDI in a large trauma cohort. Furthermore, factors predicting DDI were investigated to create a score to identify patients at risk for DDI. ⋯ DDI are present in a sounding number of trauma patients. The reported results highlight the importance of a highly suspicious and thorough physical examination in the trauma room. The introduced RIDD score might help to identify patients at high risk for DDI. A tertiary survey should be implemented to minimise delayed diagnosed or even missed injuries.

Impact of lateral cortical notching on biomechanical performance in cephalomedullary nailing for unstable pertrochanteric fractures.
In pertrochanteric femur fractures the risk for fracture healing complications increases with the complexity of the fracture. In addition to dynamization along the lag screw, successful fracture healing may also be facilitated by further dynamization along the shaft axis. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical stability of additional axial notch dynamization compared to the standard treatment in an unstable pertrochanteric femur fracture treated with cephalomedullary nailing. ⋯ Axial notch dynamization provided equivalent mechanical stability compared to standard treatment in an unstable pertrochanteric fracture. Whether the interfragmentary compression generated by axial notch dynamization will promote fracture healing through improved fracture reduction needs to be evaluated clinically.
