Age affects vascular morphology and predictiveness of anatomical landmarks for aortic zones in trauma patients: implications for resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta.
Understanding the vascular morphology is fundamental for resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of aging on length and diameter of aorta and iliac arteries in trauma patients, and to investigate the predictiveness of anatomical landmarks for aortic zones. ⋯ Aging increases the length and diameter of aorta and iliac arteries, with a tortuous and enlarged morphology in geriatric populations. The mid-sternum and the lower one-third junction of the xiphisternum to the umbilicus were predictive landmarks for zone 1 and zone 3, respectively.

Comparison of analgesic efficacy of ibuprofen and dexketoprofen in pain management of long bone fractures: a prospective, randomized, double-blind study.
Long bone fractures (LBF) often cause severe pain, impacting patients' quality of life. This prospective, randomized, double-blind study aimed to compare the analgesic efficacy of dexketoprofen (Dex) and ibuprofen (Ibu) in LBF patients in the emergency department. ⋯ Ibuprofen 800 mg demonstrated superior analgesic efficacy at 60 and 120 min compared to Dex in long bone fractures. These findings suggest ibuprofen's potential as an effective pain management option in emergency departments.

ReviewAdvancing pain management for extremity trauma: the evolution of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks for patients in the supine position in trauma centers.
Trauma, particularly extremity trauma, poses a considerable challenge in healthcare, especially among young adults. Given the severity of patient pain and the risks associated with excessive opioid use, managing acute pain in trauma centers is inherently complex. This study aims to investigate the application and benefits of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks for early pain management in patients with extremity trauma positioned supine. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided nerve blocks present a promising avenue for early pain management in extremity trauma patients positioned supinely. Their implementation can lead to improved patient outcomes by alleviating pain severity, reducing opioid consumption, and cutting down healthcare costs. Further research and clinical integration of these techniques is imperative to enhance pain management protocols in trauma centers.

No trauma-related diagnosis in emergency trauma room whole-body computer tomography of patients with inconspicuous primary survey.
Whole-body computer tomographic examinations (WBCT) are essential in diagnosing the severely injured. The structured clinical evaluation in the emergency trauma room, according to ATLS® and guidelines, helps to indicate the correct radiological imaging to avoid overtriage and undertriage. This retrospective, single-center study aimed to evaluate the value of WBCT in patients with an inconspicuous primary survey and whether there is any evidence for this investigation in this group of patients. ⋯ Not one of the clinically asymptomatic patients had an imageable injury after WBCT diagnostics in this study. WBCT should only be performed in severely injured patients after clinical assessment regardless of "trauma mechanism." According to guidelines and ATLS®, the clinical examination seems to be a safe and reliable method for reasonable and responsible decision-making regarding the realization of WBCT with all well-known risk factors.
