Conservative treatment versus transverse pinning in fifth metacarpal neck fractures in active adults: a randomized controlled trial.
Compare two simple ways for treating boxer's fractures in active adults; conservative management by ulnar gutter slab and transverse pinning in fixation of fifth metacarpal's neck fracture regarding union, functional outcomes, and complications. ⋯ Both conservative management in ulnar gutter slab and percutaneous transverse pinning are considered effective methods in the treatment of simple extra-articular fifth metacarpal neck fractures with angulation between 30 and 70 degrees (AO: 77 A3.1). The functional and radiological results using both methods were satisfactory and statistically comparable.

Psychiatric comorbidity and trauma: impact on inpatient outcomes and implications for future management.
This study aimed to quantify the impact of pre-existing psychiatric illness on inpatient outcomes after major trauma and to assess acuity of psychiatric presentation as a predictor of outcomes. ⋯ Psychiatric comorbidity negatively impacts inpatient morbidity and inpatient LOS. This effect is most pronounced among acute psychiatric episodes with or without a history of mental illness.

Comparing outcomes following direct admission and early transfer to specialized trauma centers in open tibial fracture treatment: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Guidelines on the management of open tibia fractures recommend timely treatment in a limb reconstruction center which offer joint orthopedic-trauma and plastic surgery services. However, patient's transfer between centers remains inevitable. This review aims to evaluate the clinical outcomes and hospital factors for patients directly admitted and transferred patients to a limb-reconstruction center. ⋯ Therapeutic level IIa.

Design and psychometric properties of the acute care quality in trauma emergency units scale.
Systematic trauma care scale could be designed and used by nurses to completely and adequately fulfill a complex care to improve trauma care quality. The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate the psychometric property of the Nursing Care Quality in Trauma Emergency Units and trauma care promotion. ⋯ Therapeutic/care management.

To provide an overview of trauma system maturation in Europe. ⋯ The level of development of trauma care systems in Europe varies greatly. Substantial improvements in trauma systems in several European countries are still to be made, especially regarding quality assurance and key infrastructure elements, such as implementation of a lead agency to oversee the trauma system, and funding for growth, innovation and research.
