Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Intubation of non-difficult airways using video laryngoscope versus direct laryngoscope: a randomized, parallel-group study.
The video laryngoscope is recommended for intubating difficult airways. The present study aimed to determine whether the video laryngoscope can further improve intubation success rates compared with the direct laryngoscope in patients with non-difficult airways. ⋯ Intubation using a video laryngoscope yielded significantly higher intubation success rates and significantly fewer postoperative complications than direct laryngoscopy in patients with non-difficult airways.

Preoperative oral carbohydrates has been suggested to attenuate insulin resistance and decrease postoperative complications. In this study, a vitamin-rich carbohydrate beverage was administered before surgery in an animal model to investigate its effects on the surgical stress response and S-100β levels. ⋯ Vitamin-rich carbohydrate pretreatment attenuated the metabolic aspect of the surgical stress response and decreased the level of plasma S-100β, which may decrease the risk of postoperative complications in elderly rats.

Observational Study
Tourniquet-induced tissue hypoxia characterized by near-infrared spectroscopy during ankle surgery: an observational study.
Pneumatic tourniquet inflation during extremity surgery leads to profound and prolonged tissue ischemia. Its effect on tissue oxygenation is inadequately studied. ⋯ Tissue dys-oxygenation following tourniquet application can be reliably monitored using tissue oximetry. Its outcome significance remains to be determined.

This report describes one case of anesthetic management about surgical resection of a malignant phaeochromocytoma with tumor extension into vena cava and right atrium in a patient. Report for anesthetic management is limited in these patients under surgical resection until now. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, the occurrence of pheochromocytoma with IVC and right atrium thrombosis has not been reported in mainland China so far. This clinical case may supply a rare reference experience for surgical treatment and anesthetic management in the group of phaeochromocytoma patient with distance vascular extension.

Meta Analysis
Outcomes of general anesthesia versus conscious sedation for Stroke undergoing endovascular treatment: a meta-analysis.
The impact of anesthesia strategy on the outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients undergoing endovascular treatment is currently controversy. Thus, we performed this meta-analysis to compare the differences of clinical and angiographic outcomes between general anesthesia (GA) and conscious sedation (CS). ⋯ AIS patients performed endovascular treatment under GA compared with CS was associated with worse functional outcome and increased rate of mortality, but differences in worsened outcomes do not exist when one looks into the GA vs. CS RCTs. Moreover, these findings are mainly based on the retrospective studies and additional multi-center randomized controlled trials to definitively address these issues is warranted.
