Effect of different doses of esketamine compared with fentanyl combined with propofol on hypotension in patients undergoing painless abortion surgery: a prospective, randomized, double-blind controlled clinical trial.
Opioids analgesics commonly used in abortion procedures are associated with respiratory and circulatory depression. Esketamine is a N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA) antagonist and a common analgesic. The drug has several advantages including rapid onset and offset and it causes minimal cardiorespiratory depression. However, studies have not explored the effects of esketamine in patients undergoing painless abortion surgery. Therefore, the present study sought to evaluate the effect of different doses of esketamine compared with the effect of fentanyl on incidence of perioperative hypotension in patients undergoing painless abortion surgery and to explore the optimal esketamine dose for this population. ⋯ The findings of the present study showed that single-dose esketamine (0.25 mg kg- 1) effectively decreased incidence of hypotension and total adverse events and reduced the frequency of additional propofol dose required for patients undergoing painless abortion with preservation of physician-patient satisfaction.

Effect of postoperative ultrasound-guided internal superior laryngeal nerve block on sore throat after intubation of double-lumen bronchial tube: a randomized controlled double-blind trial.
Postoperative sore throat (POST) is one of the main adverse postoperative outcome after tracheal intubation using double-lumen endobronchial tubes (DLTs). The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness and safety of ultrasound (US)-guided block of the internal branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (iSLN) for alleviating POST after intubation of DLTs. ⋯ The use of US-guided iSLN block can be effectively and safely applied to relieve POST after intubation of DLTs on thoracic surgery.

Comparison of SaCoVLM™ video laryngeal mask-guided intubation and i-gel combined with flexible bronchoscopy-guided intubation in airway management during general anesthesia: a non-inferiority study.
When a difficult airway is unanticipatedly encountered and the initial laryngoscopic intubation fails, a supraglottic airway device (SAD) may be placed to aid ventilation and oxygenation, and act as a conduit for intubation. SaCoVLM™, as new SAD, can offer a direct vision to guide intubation. However, no study has evaluated the performance of SaCoVLM™ video laryngeal mask (VLM) intubation and i-gel combined with flexible bronchoscopy (FB)-guided intubation in airway management during general anesthesia. ⋯ SaCoVLM™ can reveal the position of laryngeal inlet, thus providing direct vision for tracheal intubation. SaCoVLM™ -guided intubation is faster, and does not rely on FB, compared to i-gel combined with FB-guided intubation. Besides, SaCoVLM™ has a lower post-intubation complication rate.

Comparative study of a modified double-lumen tube ventilation control connector and traditional connector in clinical use: a randomised-controlled trial.
A Y-shaped rotatable connector (YRC) for double-lumen tubes (DLT) is invented and compared with the traditional connector (Y-shaped connector, YC). ⋯ Compared with YC, YRC was beneficial for maintaining depth of anesthesia, improves efficiency for the switch between one-lung and two-lung ventilation, and shortens the tube positioning time.

Incidence and risk factors of intraoperative hyperglycemia in non-diabetic patients: a prospective observational study.
Intraoperative hyperglycemia has been associated with multiple postoperative complications such as surgical site infection, myocardial infarction, stroke, and death. These complications are not confined to only diabetic patients. However, the incidence of intraoperative hyperglycemia in non-diabetic patients has not been fully elucidated. Additionally, these patients' risk factors were not well established in previous studies. ⋯ The incidence of intraoperative hyperglycemia was significant in non-diabetic patients during intermediate- to high-risk surgery. Risk factors should be identified to prevent intraoperative hyperglycemia.
