Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent complication of cardiac surgery that poses significant risks for both the development of chronic kidney diseases and mortality. Our previous study illustrated that heightened expression levels of faecal and plasma indole metabolites before the operation were associated with ischemic AKI. In this study, we aimed to validate the supposition that plasma indole-3-aldehyde (I3A) could serve as a predictive biomarker for AKI in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ The dysregulation of gut microbiota metabolism in patients scheduled for cardiac surgery can result in an increase in indoles from tryptophan metabolism, which may be associated with postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI). This suggests that indoles may serve as a predictive biomarker for AKI in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Effects of laryngeal mask ventilation on postoperative atelectasis in children undergoing day surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
To compare the effects of laryngeal mask mechanical ventilation and preserved spontaneous breathing on postoperative atelectasis in children undergoing day surgery. ⋯ Laryngeal mask mechanical ventilation can reduce the incidence and severity of postoperative atelectasis in children undergoing day surgery, and we didn't encounter any complications such as reflux and aspiration in children during the perioperative period, so mechanical ventilation was recommended to be used for airway management.

Respiratory variation in the internal jugular vein (IJVV) has not shown promising results in predicting volume responsiveness in ventilated patients with low tidal volume (Vt) in prone position. We aimed to determine whether the baseline respiratory variation in the IJVV value measured by ultrasound might predict fluid responsiveness in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) undergoing posterior spinal fusion (PSF) with low Vt. ⋯ This trial was registered at www.chictr.org (ChiCTR2200064947) on 24/10/2022. All data were collected through chart review.

Postoperative pain is one of the most common complications after surgery. In order to detect early and intervene in time for moderate to severe postoperative pain, it is necessary to identify risk factors and construct clinical prediction models. This study aimed to identify significant risk factors and establish a better-performing model to predict moderate to severe acute postoperative pain after orthopedic surgery under general anesthesia. ⋯ The random forest model can be used to predict moderate to severe acute postoperative pain after orthopedic surgery under general anesthesia, which is of potential clinical application value.

Comparison of invasive and non-invasive measurements of cardiac index and systemic vascular resistance in living-donor liver transplantation: a prospective, observational study.
Based on the controversy surrounding pulmonary artery catheterization (PAC) in surgical patients, we investigated the interchangeability of cardiac index (CI) and systemic vascular resistance (SVR) measurements between ClearSight™ and PAC during living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT). ⋯ During LDLT, CI and SVR demonstrated poor interchangeability, while SAP and MAP exhibited acceptable interchangeability between ClearSight™ and FAC.
