To evaluate and summarize literature pertaining to evidence of peripheral arterial catheterization in adults, and to provide a reference for clinical practice. ⋯ The removal of a peripheral arterial manometry catheter requires careful consideration by medical professionals. In order to increase the removal standardization rate and decrease the incidence of clinical complications, standardized procedures and training need to be developed.

Anemia, characterized by low hemoglobin levels, is a global public health concern. Anemia is an independent factor worsening outcomes in various patient groups. Blood transfusion has been the traditional treatment for anemia; its triggers, primarily based on hemoglobin levels; however, hemoglobin level is not always an ideal trigger for blood transfusion. Additionally, blood transfusion worsens clinical outcomes in certain patient groups. This narrative review explores alternative triggers for red blood cell transfusion and their physiological basis. ⋯ Anemia and blood transfusion are significant factors affecting patient outcomes. While restrictive transfusion strategies are widely recommended, they may not account for the nuances of specific patient populations. The search for alternative transfusion triggers is essential to tailor transfusion therapy effectively, especially in patients with comorbidities or unique clinical profiles. Investigating alternative triggers not only enhances patient care by identifying more precise indicators but also minimizes transfusion-related risks, optimizes blood product utilization, and ensures availability when needed. Personalized transfusion strategies based on alternative triggers hold the potential to improve outcomes in various clinical scenarios, addressing anemia's complex challenges in healthcare. Further research and evidence are needed to refine these alternative triggers and guide their implementation in clinical practice.

To systematically review the evidence about the effect of haloperidol on postoperative delirium in elderly patients. ⋯ The meta-analysis revealed perioperative application of haloperidol could decrease the occurrence of postoperative delirium without obvious side effects in elderly people, and high-dose haloperidol (5 mg daily) possessed a greater positive effect.

In on-pump cardiac surgery, the albumin priming strategy could maintain colloid osmotic pressure better than crystalloid solutions and reduce excessive perioperative fluid balance. However, a high-quality meta-analysis is required to compare the safety of these approaches in perioperative red blood cell (RBC) transfusions. Owing to limited direct evidence, we conducted a network meta-analysis (NMA) to increase the pool of studies and provide indirect evidence. ⋯ Both direct and NMA evidence indicated that the albumin priming strategy resulted in more perioperative RBC transfusions than crystalloids. Considering the additional blood management burden, the application of an albumin-priming strategy in on-pump cardiac surgery still needs more consideration.

Intraoperative circulatory arrest secondary to high-risk pulmonary embolism. Case series and updated literature review.
Intraoperative pulmonary embolism (PE) with cardiac arrest (CA) represents a critical and potentially fatal condition. Available treatments include systemic thrombolysis, catheter-based thrombus fragmentation or aspiration, and surgical embolectomy. However, limited studies are focused on the optimal treatment choice for this critical condition. We present a case series and an updated review of the management of intraoperative CA secondary to PE. ⋯ The essential components for adequate management of intraoperative PE with CA include hemodynamic support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the implementation of a primary perfusion intervention. The prompt identification of the criteria for each specific treatment modality, guided by the individual patient's characteristics, is necessary for an optimal approach.
