Comparison of postoperative IL-6 and IL-10 levels following Erector Spinae Plane Block (ESPB) and classical Thoracolumbar Interfascial Plane (TLIP) block in a posterior lumbar decompression and stabilization procedure: a randomized controlled trial.
The erector spinae plane block (ESPB) and classical thoracolumbar interfascial plane (TLIP) block can reduce postoperative pain in lumbar surgery. In this study, we compared the efficacy of ESPB and classical TLIP block in providing perioperative analgesia in patients undergoing lumbar posterior decompression and stabilization by comparing postoperative pain, opioid consumption, and IL-6 and IL-10 serum concentrations between ESPB and classical TLIP block. ⋯ ESPB and classical TLIP block performance during lumbar surgery have comparable pain scores, IL-6 and IL-10 concentration differences pre- and post-operation, and total opioid consumption post-operatively. However, classical TLIP block provides a prolonged duration of analgesia.

Comparison of pulmonary function during interscalene block vs. supraclavicular block: a single-center, double-blind, randomized trial.
The supraclavicular plexus block (SCB) and interscalene plexus block (ISB) have the potential to pulmonary function, the duration of the potential remains uncertain. So, we compared the effect of SCB and ISB on pulmonary function, especially the duration time. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided ISB resulted in a longer periods with a suppressive effect on pulmonary function than SCB.

Comparison of hemodynamics during induction of general anesthesia with remimazolam and target-controlled propofol in middle-aged and elderly patients: a single-center, randomized, controlled trial.
Remimazolam confers a lower risk of hypotension than propofol. However, no studies have compared the efficacy of remimazolam and propofol administered using target-controlled infusion (TCI). This study aimed to investigate hemodynamic effects of remimazolam and target-controlled propofol in middle-aged and elderly patients during the induction of anesthesia. ⋯ Hemodynamics were not significantly different between remimazolam and target-controlled propofol groups during induction of anesthesia. Thus, not only the choice but also the dose and usage of anesthetics are important for hemodynamic stability while inducing anesthesia. Clinicians should monitor hypotension while inducing anesthesia with remimazolam as well as propofol.

Brain relaxation using desflurane anesthesia and total intravenous anesthesia in patients undergoing craniotomy for supratentorial tumors: a randomized controlled study.
Satisfactory brain relaxation is essential in neurosurgery. Desflurane anesthesia and propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) have different effects on cerebral hemodynamics, potentially contributing to discrepant brain relaxation. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of desflurane and TIVA on brain relaxation in patients undergoing craniotomy for supratentorial tumors. ⋯ Desflurane anesthesia and TIVA provide similar brain relaxation in patients without intracranial hypertension undergoing elective craniotomy. Desflurane accelerates the recovery from anesthesia but is associated with increased PONV and tachycardia during the recovery period.

Development of a novel tool: a nomogram for predicting in-hospital mortality of patients in intensive care unit after percutaneous coronary intervention.
Increased risk of in-hospital mortality is critical to guide medical decisions and it played a central role in intensive care unit (ICU) with high risk of in-hospital mortality after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). At present,most predicting tools for in-hospital mortality after PCI were based on the results of coronary angiography, echocardiography, and laboratory results which are difficult to obtain at admission. The difficulty of using these tools limit their clinical application. This study aimed to develop a clinical prognostic nomogram to predict the in-hospital mortality of patients in ICU after PCI. ⋯ A new nomogram was constructed, and it presented excellent performance in predicting in-hospital mortality of patients in ICU after PCI.
