The Acute Dialysis Quality Initiative (ADQI) Group published a consensus definition (the RIFLE criteria) for acute renal failure. We sought to assess the ability of the RIFLE criteria to predict mortality in critically ill Thai patients with acute kidney injury (AKI). ⋯ Acute kidney injury 'risk, injury, failure', as defined by the newly developed RIFLE classification, is associated with increased hospital mortality and renal replacement therapy in critically ill Thai patients.

The objectives of this study were to determine 1) the rate of delayed defibrillation and 2) the importance of early defibrillation in patients with cardiac arrest who need defibrillation in a large tertiary care hospital. ⋯ Among in-hospital patients with cardiac arrest and who needed defibrillation, early defibrillation is the major key to a successful outcome.
