Controlled Clinical Trial[Study of the effects of mechanical ventilation on the heart function of patients with echocardiography].
To study the effects of different positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) levels on the heart function of patients undergoing mechanical ventilation (MV) with echocardiography. ⋯ Under the same condition of MV, change in PEEP levels (0-14 cm H(2)O) do not produce any obvious effect in the normal cardiac function group, on the other hand when PEEP≥10 cm H(2)O left heart function is significantly lowered in the poor cardiac function group. Optimal PEEP may improve the cardiac function.

Randomized Controlled Trial[Difference between single hole exhalation valve and plateau exhalation valve when used in patients treated with BiPAP Vision ventilator for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with hypercapnia].
To observe difference in clinical effect between single hole exhalation valve and plateau exhalation valve when used in patients treated with BiPAP Vision ventilator for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with hypercapnia. ⋯ During BiPAP Vision ventilator in NIPPV treatment of patients with COPD complicated with CO2 retention , single hole exhalation valve and plateau exhalation valve both resulted in marked improvement in PaO2 and obvious decrease in PaCO2. Plateau exhalation valve corrected CO2 retention more quickly and effectively than side hole exhalation valve probably by preventing CO2 rebreathing by the patients.

Controlled Clinical Trial[The application of improved Glasgow coma scale score of 15 as switching point for invasive noninvasive mechanical ventilation in treatment of severe respiratory failure in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].
To estimate the feasibility and the efficacy of early extubation and the sequential non invasive mechanical ventilation (MV) in severe respiratory failure of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with the improved Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score of 15 as the switching point. ⋯ The application of improved GCS score of 15 as the switching point with 2 hours as window period for early extubation and non invasive nasal mask ventilation can significantly improve the therapeutic effect in patients with severe respiratory failure in COPD.

Comparative Study[Prediction of outcome of elderly patients with respiratory failure: comparison of current scoring systems].
To evaluate the predictive power of current scoring systems applied in elderly patients with respiratory failure. ⋯ All the four current scoring systems , i.e. APACHE II, APACHE III, SAPSII and Marshall score, presented satisfactory predictive power in prognosis of elderly patients with respiratory failure.

[Experimental study on acute respiratory distress syndrome and analysis of relevant factors in rabbits subjected to thoracic blast trauma].
To reproduce acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) model in rabbit induced by chest blast injury and to analyze the pathogenesis and causes of early death in order to provide the basis for the early diagnosis of lung blast injury and its early warning system to facilitate an early treatment. ⋯ In an airtight environment, rabbit ARDS model can be reproduced successfully by blast injury with 1 917.3 mm Hg explosion pressure; TNF-α and IL-6 are involved in the pathogenesis and development of ARDS in blast injury. Pneumothorax as a result of lung rupture is the chief reason for early death and dysfunction of circulatory system is also an important reason in producing early death.
