[Diagnostic value of procalcitonin in ventilator associated pneumonia].
To explore the diagnostic value of procalcitonin (PCT) quantification in ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP). ⋯ The value of serum PCT has high sensitivity rate in the diagnosis of VAP, so that timely surveillance of serum PCT change is helpful for the diagnosis of VAP in the early stage.

Comparative Study[Comparison of single-indicator thermodilution versus gravimetric measurement in determination of extra-vascular lung water in dogs with acute respiratory distress syndrome].
To compare the measurement of extra-vascular lung water (EVLW) by a single-indicator dilution technique and measurement obtained by gravimetry in different types of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ⋯ The results of measuring EVLW using single indicator dilution measurement are closely related with those of gravimetric measurement in ARDS, however, the correlations varies with the methods of reproduction of ARDS.

[Use of acute physiology and chronic health evaluation III in evaluating prognosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in elderly patients on mechanical ventilation].
To investigate the feasibility of estimating risk of prognosis and hospital mortality in elderly patients (> or =60 years old) with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) under the treatment of mechanical ventilation by using acute physiology and chronic health evaluation III (APACHE III). ⋯ APACHE III score and its dynamic change could be an ideal tool to predict risk for hospital mortality in elderly patients with COPD on mechanical ventilation.

[Investigation of the risk factors and prevention of nosocomial tracheobronchitis in elderly patients on mechanical ventilation in surgical intensive care unit].
To investigate the incidence, the risk factors and the outcome of nosocomial tracheobronchitis (NTB) in patients age over 65 years of age receiving mechanical ventilation (MV). ⋯ There is high incidence of NTB in ventilated patients in surgical ICU. Low albumin level, nasal feeding, prolonged MV and ICU stay days, high APACH II score and administration of too much antibiotics are the important risk factors of NTB.

[Study of continuous hemodynamics monitoring techniques in patients with mechanical ventilation].
To elucidate the relativity among three kinds of continuous hemodynamics monitoring techniques: thermodilution via Swan-Ganz catheter, pulse contour analysis method (PiCCO), partial CO(2) rebreathing method (non invasive cardiac output, NICO), in patients with mechanical ventilation. ⋯ PiCCO and NICO can be used as reliable measure to monitor ventilated patients bedside in intensive care unit (ICU), thus offering an assistance to optimize therapeutic strategy.
