A multicenter, primary-care-based, open-label study to assess the success of converting opioid-experienced patients with chronic moderate-to-severe pain to morphine sulfate and naltrexone hydrochloride extended-release capsules using a standardized conversion guide.
To evaluate the conversion of opioid-experienced patients with chronic moderate-to-severe pain to extended-release morphine sulfate with sequestered naltrexone hydrochloride (MSN) using a standardized conversion guide. ⋯ Conversion to MSN treatment using the standardized MSN conversion guide was an attainable goal in approximately half of the population of opioid-experienced patients with chronic moderate-to-severe pain. Investigators found the guide to be a useful tool to assist conversion of opioid-experienced patients to MSN.

Identification of a potential fibromyalgia diagnosis using random forest modeling applied to electronic medical records.
Diagnosis of fibromyalgia (FM), a chronic musculoskeletal condition characterized by widespread pain and a constellation of symptoms, remains challenging and is often delayed. ⋯ Random forest modeling may help to quantify the predictive probability of an FM diagnosis. Rules can be developed to simplify interpretability. Further validation of these models may facilitate earlier diagnosis and enhance management.

Landmark-based versus ultrasound-guided ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric nerve blocks in the treatment of chronic postherniorrhaphy groin pain: a retrospective study.
Chronic postherniorrhaphy groin pain (CPGP) is a debilitating condition, which is often refractory to conservative medical management. To our knowledge, there have been no studies directly comparing landmarked-based and ultrasound-guided approaches in this population. ⋯ In our study, there was no statistically significant difference between the landmark-based and ultrasound-guided groups in terms of a reduction in VAS pain scores, and no complications were noted in either group.

A cross-sectional study examining the psychometric properties of the painDETECT measure in neuropathic pain.
Similarities and differences on the nine-item and seven-item versions of painDETECT, a patient-reported screener to identify neuropathic pain (NeP), have not been psychometrically explored across NeP conditions. ⋯ painDETECT scores were within the range indicating high probability of NeP. Differences between conditions were generally modest or not large. Both versions showed evidence of internal consistency reliability and item-level discrimination, suggesting that painDETECT is a useful screening measure for identifying NeP across NeP conditions.

Development of opioid-induced constipation: post hoc analysis of data from a 12-week prospective, open-label, blinded-endpoint streamlined study in low-back pain patients treated with prolonged-release WHO step III opioids.
Opioid-induced constipation is the most prevalent patient complaint associated with longer-term opioid use and interferes with analgesic efficacy, functionality, quality of life, and patient compliance. ⋯ In this post hoc analysis of data from a real-life 12-week study, OXN treatment was associated with a significantly lower risk of opioid-induced constipation, superior tolerability, and significantly better analgesic efficacy compared with OXY and MOR.
