Pancreas and peripancreatic vessels: effect of imaging delay on gadolinium enhancement at dynamic gradient-recalled-echo MR imaging.
To investigate the effect of imaging delay on gadolinium enhancement of the pancreas and peripancreatic vessels at dynamic gradient-recalled-echo magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the pancreas. ⋯ Biphasic imaging at 15 and 45 seconds or later after arrival of contrast material in the abdominal aorta is a practical method for acquisition of high-quality dynamic gradient-recalled-echo MR images of the pancreas.

Tunneled hemodialysis catheters: use of a silver-coated catheter for prevention of infection--a randomized study.
To determine whether silver-coated tunneled hemodialysis catheters reduce infection and to determine the frequency of central venous thrombosis and stenosis with percutaneous placement of right internal jugular vein dialysis catheters by interventional radiologists. ⋯ Silver coating does not confer a benefit against clinical infection or colonization. Interventional radiologic placement of tunneled dialysis catheters yields a low frequency of permanent central venous thrombosis and stenosis.

Percutaneous biliary drainage: clinical trial of analgesia with interpleural block.
To determine the analgesic efficacy and safety of interpleural block for percutaneous biliary drainage. ⋯ Interpleural block was effective in decreasing pain and opioid requirements during and after percutaneous biliary drainage and did not compromise the cardiopulmonary status of the patient. However, the rate of pneumothorax was higher than previously reported.

Rapid MR imaging versus plain radiography in patients with low back pain: initial results of a randomized study.
To demonstrate the feasibility of a randomized trial to compare rapid magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with plain radiography as the initial imaging study in patients with low back pain, to test measures of the decision-making process and patient outcomes, and to offer a model for using randomized clinical trials to evaluate diagnostic tests. ⋯ Randomly selecting patients to undergo imaging examinations and measuring outcomes is feasible; however, a larger, multicenter study is necessary to determine whether rapid MR imaging is a cost-effective replacement for plain radiography in patients with low back pain.
