Review[New anesthetic and resuscitation techniques in adult cardiac surgery].
Anesthetic techniques and treatment of cardiac surgery patients have considerably evolved over the past twenty years. The demand for cardiac surgical procedures is increasing. This demand coincides with a change in the profile of patients presenting for surgery, requiring modification in perioperative management strategies. ⋯ Fast track cardiac anesthesia (FTCA) is becoming an accepted practice for perioperative management of cardiac surgical patients. FTCA is a key component to successful conduction of fast-track cardiac surgery. Also, analgesia management in cardiac surgery is becoming more important with the establishment of minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass surgery and fast track management of conventional cardiac surgery patients.

Review[Clinical applications of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation].
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), when delivered in trains of pulses is able to induce long-lasting changes of excitability of neuronal networks, not only in the vicinity of the stimulating coil, but also at distant sites. Results of stimulation experiments over the motor cortex indicate that the effects (excitatory or inhibitory) depend on the frequency of stimulation. These data have prompted researchers to use repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as a therapeutic tool in various brain disorders, most notably depression. However, as long as large randomized trials have not been conducted, rTMS cannot be recommended as an alternative to validated conventional therapies of such disorders.

Review[Hand, foot and mouth disease, a not so benign affection: clinical reminder and potential complications].
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is an infection appearing in epidemics and due, in most cases, to Coxsackie-virus A16 and/or Enterovirus 71 or, less often, to other Coxsackie-virus serotypes. The symptomatology mostly consists in vesicular eruption of the anterior part of the buccal mucosa as well as of hands and feet. Its evolution, although often benign, can include cardiopulmonary and neurological complications. The latter complications require a quickly detection and treatment, and prevention of virus transmission to other people must be adequate.

Morton's neuroma is a frequent cause of pain in the forefoot that commonly occurs in the third intermetatarsal space. It is a type of nerve compression syndrome which involves the common digital plantar nerves. ⋯ Imaging procedures may be useful to diagnose an atypical case or postoperative recurrence. Conservative treatments are successful in most cases, but when they fail surgery may be considered.

Review[Prevention of lower limb necrosis and amputation by femoro-crural bypass: indications, techniques and results].
Limb threatening ischemia is a challenge for the vascular surgeon. Recent progress in revascularization procedures allow to minimize the primary amputation rate in the management of chronic critical limb ischemia. ⋯ A review of published series of infrapopliteal bypass surgery is made. The experience of the authors during last decade with crural and pedal bypass surgery is analyzed.
