Historical Article[Ten years after the latest revision International Anatomical Terminology].
Ten years ago, the latest revision of the Latin anatomical nomenclature was approved and published as Terminologia Anatomica (International Anatomical Terminology), and is acknowledged by the organization uniting national anatomical societies--International Federation of Associations of Anatomists. The authors concentrate on new terms included in the nomenclature and on the linguistic changes of terminology. ⋯ The usage of this Latin anatomical nomenclature version is suggested by the International Federation to follow in theoretical and clinical fields of medicine. The authors of the article strongly recommend using the recent revision of the Latin anatomical nomenclature both in the oral and written forms, when educating and publishing.

[Experience with early enteral nutrition application in critically ill patients in medical intensive care unit].
Early enteral nutrition is recommended in patients with critical illness. Generally implementing of nutritional support algorithm is advised. The aim of study was evaluation of early enteral nutrition application in critically ill patients in medical intensive care unit. ⋯ Early enteral nutrition applied according to protocol was given succesfully to the substantial number of the critical patients. In 18% of the patients enteral nutrition had to be replaced for parenteral one due to complications. The caloric intake 25-30 calories/kg was reached in 60% of patients.

Historical Article[Rationality and irrationality in the medicine and in the life].
The spiritual life of man has a rational and irrational component. Both have positive as well as negative effects and under normal circumstances they are well balanced. In medicine rationality is an essential feature of the medical science and the basis of medical practice but it is not sufficient for fulfilling all curative needs. In the practice, gaps in knowledge must be complemented by empiricism and empathy which originate in the personality of the physician.

Polymorphisms in drug metabolizing enzymes are considered as a major factor influencing the incidence of adverse drug reactions or failure of pharmacotherapy. Our aim was to compare the distribution of functional polymorphisms in the genes CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 between healthy control group and of patients reffered to our department due to adverse drug reactions or insufficient efficacy of a treatment. ⋯ Clinically apparent alteration of drug effects are often caused by partial or complete deficit of CYP2D6 activity. Our results confirm the importance of CYP2D6 polymorphisms on the efficycy and safety of pharmacotherapy.

[Effect of surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation on the attainment and maintenance of sinus rhythm in patients undergoing concomitant cardiac surgery--short-term results].
Atrial fibrillation is the most frequent sustained arrhythmia. It is associated with higher morbidity and mortality of patients. Cryoablation was introduced to the current practise in cardiac surgery as a non-pharmacological method of therapy of atrial fibrillation. The aim of the study was to assess the effect of surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation on the attainment and maintenance of sinus rhythm in patients undergoing concomitant cardiac surgery. ⋯ Perioperative ablation of atrial fibrillation using cryoenergy is effective therapeutic method for restoring and maintenance of sinus rhythm in relatively high proportion of patients. The most significant predictors of late recurrence are preoperative atrial size and duration of atrial fibrillation. This non-pharmacological method should be routinely used in patients undergoing concomitant cardiac surgery.
