Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyFully closed-loop insulin delivery in inpatients receiving nutritional support: a two-centre, open-label, randomised controlled trial.
Glucose management is challenging in patients who require nutritional support in hospital. We aimed to assess whether fully closed-loop insulin delivery would improve glycaemic control compared with conventional subcutaneous insulin therapy in inpatients receiving enteral or parenteral nutrition or both. ⋯ Diabetes UK, Swiss National Science Foundation, National Institute for Health Research Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre, Wellcome Trust, and European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes.

Randomized Controlled TrialCommunity groups or mobile phone messaging to prevent and control type 2 diabetes and intermediate hyperglycaemia in Bangladesh (DMagic): a cluster-randomised controlled trial.
Strategies are needed to prevent and control type 2 diabetes and intermediate hyperglycaemia, which together affect roughly a third of adults in Bangladesh. We aimed to assess the effects of mHealth and community mobilisation on the prevalence of intermediate hyperglycaemia and diabetes among the general adult population in rural Bangladesh, and to assess the effect of these interventions on the incidence of type 2 diabetes among people with intermediate hyperglycaemia within the study population. ⋯ UK Medical Research Council.

Meta AnalysisChange in albuminuria and subsequent risk of end-stage kidney disease: an individual participant-level consortium meta-analysis of observational studies.
Change in albuminuria as a surrogate endpoint for progression of chronic kidney disease is strongly supported by biological plausibility, but empirical evidence to support its validity in epidemiological studies is lacking. We aimed to assess the consistency of the association between change in albuminuria and risk of end-stage kidney disease in a large individual participant-level meta-analysis of observational studies. ⋯ US National Kidney Foundation and US National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffect of metformin in addition to dietary and lifestyle advice for pregnant women who are overweight or obese: the GRoW randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Maternal overweight and obesity are associated with well recognised pregnancy complications. Antenatal dietary and lifestyle interventions have a modest effect on gestational weight gain without affecting pregnancy outcomes. We aimed to assess the effects on maternal and infant outcomes of antenatal metformin given in addition to dietary and lifestyle advice among overweight and obese pregnant women. ⋯ Australian National Health and Medical Research Council.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy of a novel inhibitor of vascular adhesion protein-1 in reducing albuminuria in patients with diabetic kidney disease (ALBUM): a randomised, placebo-controlled, phase 2 trial.
Many patients with diabetic kidney disease have residual albuminuria and are at risk of disease progression. The ALBUM trial investigated the efficacy of a novel, orally active inhibitor of vascular adhesion protein-1, ASP8232, compared with placebo for reducing albuminuria in individuals with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. ⋯ Astellas.
