Analysis of body growth parameters in girls with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: single thoracic idiopathic scoliosis versus single lumbar idiopathic scoliosis.
Abnormal pattern of growth has been reported in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients. However, the sequential changes of growth in different curve types of AIS have not been properly studied. The present study aimed to investigate the body growth characteristics of girls with single thoracic idiopathic scoliosis and lumbar idiopathic scoliosis in China. 339 AIS girls and 3914 healthy girls, aged 10~17yr, were included. ⋯ The standing and sitting height between thoracic and lumbar AIS girls were similar during the pubertal period. Compared to healthy girls at the same age, thoracic and lumbar AIS girls had a significantly higher corrected standing, sitting height and leg length. In addition, thoracic AIS girls are leaner than healthy girls.

Comparative StudyA comparison of an integrated suction blade versus a traditional videolaryngoscope blade in the endotracheal intubation of a hemorrhagic cadaver model - a pilot study.
In this pilot study, we evaluated two types of videolaryngoscope blades (integrated suction vs. traditional) with the Storz CMAC videolaryngoscope in the intubation of a lightly embalmed hemorrhagic cadaver model. No significant differences were found between the devices in the success rates for the intubations. The study subjects indicated a preference for the integrated suction blade in hemorrhagic airway intubation.

Comparative Study Controlled Clinical TrialA comparison of the effects of deep tissue massage and therapeutic massage on chronic low back pain.
This study compared the effectiveness of two different kind of massage: therapeutic and deep tissue on chronic low back pain. ⋯ There was not statistically significant differences between groups according to age and BMI. Statistically significant differences were noted after TM in every test [ODI p=0.010; QBPD p<0.001; VAS p<0.001] and after DTM in every test [ODI p<0.001; QBPD p<0.001; VAS p<0.001]. DTM was statistically significant better therapy than TM in ODI [p=0.038] and VAS [p=0.015]. Further research is needed to verify the results.

Checklists can be used to improve and standardize safety critical processes and their communication. The introduction of potentially harmful medical technology and equipment has created additional requirements for the safe delivery of health care. ⋯ The checklist provided different functionality for the different users, ranging from a memory/attention support to a standardized form of communication on safety matters. However, the rigidity afforded by the electronic implementation, showed some serious drawbacks over the prior, simpler, paper-based versions.

Comparative StudyPerformance comparison of laryngoscopy and suction techniques in a hemorrhagic airway manikin simulator: direct laryngoscopy with Yankauer vs. Storz CMAC with attached suction tip.
Airway management of the hemorrhagic airway can be a difficult skill to master as trainee exposure to this difficult airway may be limited. In this study, we employed a hemorrhagic airway simulator along with a videolaryngoscope and the Storz Boedker-Doerges (BD) suction blade. These devices provided improved intubation performance in this model with respect to traditional direct laryngoscope (DL) and VL blades. This study shows that use of a hemorrhagic simulator could be an effective and valuable training tool in difficult airway intubation training.
