Identifying computerized provider order entry (CPOE) medication errors.
Computerized provider order entry (CPOE) can help reduce the occurrence of medication errors. In Saudi Arabia, CPOE has been implemented for years, with a small number of studies evaluating the impacts of CPOE on medication errors. ⋯ Data was reviewed and evaluated to identify and analyze all drug prescribing errors and subsequently exploring factors that have contributed to the identification of the drug prescribing errors by the dispensing pharmacists. Recommendations on developing policies and procedures, working in a safe environment, healthcare provider awareness, and improved technology to reduce medication errors in Saudi Arabia are discussed.

Knowledge representation and management enabling intelligent interoperability - principles and standards.
Based on the paradigm changes for health, health services and underlying technologies as well as the need for at best comprehensive and increasingly automated interoperability, the paper addresses the challenge of knowledge representation and management for medical decision support. After introducing related definitions, a system-theoretical, architecture-centric approach to decision support systems (DSSs) and appropriate ways for representing them using systems of ontologies is given. Finally, existing and emerging knowledge representation and management standards are presented. The paper focuses on the knowledge representation and management part of DSSs, excluding the reasoning part from consideration.

Challenges and barriers to development of telemedicine programs.
The collection of data is a vital step in assuring that a system works, a method is correct and the process is adequate. As data is collected databases are created. These databases could be nothing more than a box or it could be in a computer-based, indexed database. ⋯ With the advent of telecommunications capabilities and information systems, medicine has embraced these two disciplines, resulting in a new tool - telemedicine. This new tool is undergoing rigorous peer review and scientific challenge. This has lead to a plethora of data, which indicates telemedicine is an excellent tool for medicine.
