ReviewSafety and efficacy of cranberry (vaccinium macrocarpon) during pregnancy and lactation.
There is a lack of basic knowledge on the part of both clinicians and patients as to the indications for use and safety of herbs used during pregnancy and lactation. This is one article in a series that systematically reviews the evidence for herbs commonly used during pregnancy and lactation. ⋯ Women experience urinary tract infections with greater frequency during pregnancy. Given the evidence to support the use of cranberry for urinary tract infections (UTIs) and its safety profile, cranberry supplementation as fruit or fruit juice may be a valuable therapeutic choice in the treatment of UTIs during pregnancy.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialA palatability study of a flavored dexamethasone preparation versus prednisolone liquid in children.
Palatability is an important factor in medication compliance for children where the acceptability of a liquid medication and its ease of administration will be greatly affected by its taste. ⋯ There was a statistically significant difference between the taste of dexamethasone and prednisolone, with dexamethasone being the preferred steroid among pediatric patients with asthma. Males were much more likely to prefer dexamethasone than females.

How complete are drug history profiles that are based on public drug benefit claims?
In Canada, programs are being developed to supply hospital emergency departments and family doctors with electronic access to their patientsâ drug history profiles. While some of these programs have access to databases that capture information about all out-patient prescriptions that are dispensed to an individual, regardless of payer; others do not, and rely upon claims paid by their provincial drug benefit plans. The completeness of these latter profiles is unknown. ⋯ Many Ontario seniors are at risk for an incomplete ODB drug history profile. Further research is needed to confirm whether this causes problems for physicians and patients.

Comparative StudyFetal alcohol spectrum disorder: New Zealand birth mothers' experiences.
The aim of this study was to describe the 'lived' experiences of New Zealand birth mothers, from pregnancy onwards, of a child/ren diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). ⋯ Health, social, educational, judicial professionals, policy-makers and agencies, need to understand and be educated in the daily realities and complex problems that children with FASD and their families face. Only then will the correct diagnosis be made so that these individuals can receive the nurturing, needs, education, funding and support they require in order to live full and meaningful lives and have the quality of life they deserve.
