Review[Advances in researches on thorax mechanical modeling and simulation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation].
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is vital for cardio arrest victims; in this field, researches have been aiming at its mechanism, operation guidelines, new CPR machines and so on. This paper summarized the studies on the mechanical characteristics of the thorax under CPR, and on the simulation work of sternal-displacement relationship in CPR manikins. The data from modeling work showed that the thorax's sternal-displacement relationship could be graphically represented by a hysteresis curve. As the actual CPR manikins' mechanical structures of the thorax are too simplified, it is necessary to do the work of improvement.

Monitoring the depth of anesthesia (DOA) is essential for improving the quality of anesthesia and ensuring the patient's safety and rehabilitation. Monitoring DOA can increase the quality of anesthesia and the safety of operation, thus decreasing the complications caused by anesthesia. With the development of electronic and information technology, the researches for detecting DOA have made great progress. In this paper, the techniques for monitoring DOA are reviewed.

Review[Review of visual prosthesis (II)--cortical visual prosthesis, optic nerve prosthesis and vision substitution devices].
Cortical visual prosthesis, optic nerve visual prosthesis and vision substitution devices are alternative ways for repairing the visual impairment in case of optic nerve injury, retina lose or blindness without fully developed central visual system. This article is a state-of-art review of the principles, technical details and the limitations of different types of prostheses beyond the retinal prosthesis.

Review[Progress of studies for reduction of ghost artifact in magnetic resonance imaging].
The popularity of magnetic resonance imaging over other imaging disciplines depends predominantly on its high spatial resolution, soft tissue contrast, no hard fake trace and no radiation injury. However, the ghost artifacts produced during a magnetic resonance imaging would degrade the image badly and affect the precise orientation to focus. ⋯ A lot of researches indicated that how to reduce the ghost effectively is still a challenging task. Researchers should persist in seeking for new method to solve the difficult problem.

Review[Radioprotective effects on head and neck tumors of amifostine--a broad-spectrum cytoprotection].
Differentiated thyroid cancer can be effectively treated with high-dose 131I and the other head and neck cancer can also be effectively treated with extra-radiotherapy, but these treatments often result in a reduction in salivary gland function, causing xerostomia. Collectively, these effects can lead to severe secondary complications, including difficulty in speaking and swallowing, decreasing appetite even affecting nutrition and sleep. ⋯ It has been approved by FDA to be used for protecting the salivary gland from xerostomia caused by radiotherapy. It has also show protecting effects on intra-radiotherapy, but there are many problems waiting for study.
