Meniscal lesion does not mean meniscectomy and this is particularly true for the lateral meniscus. The reputation of mildness of the meniscectomy is usurped. The rate of joint space narrowing after lateral meniscectomy is of 40% at a follow-up of 13 years compared to 28% for the medial meniscus (symposium SFA 1996). ⋯ They should be early diagnosed (MRI). Treatment options are various: abstention, meniscectomy, and repair. Painful post lateral meniscectomy syndrome may be treated by a new surgical option: meniscal allograft.

[Total hip arthroplasty after failure of per- and subtrochanteric fracture fixation in elderly subjects].
Most pertrochanteric fractures can be successfully fixed with osteosynthesis. Osteosynthesis fails however is a small number of patients who require re-operation for implantation of a total hip prosthesis. This situation occurs in particular when the material has penetrated the acetabulum and in elderly subjects. Although this type of arthroplasty is routine practice, few series have been reported. We present here outcome and complications of total hip arthroplasty after failure of per- and sub-trochanteric fracture fixation. ⋯ Despite the difficult technique and the potential complications which are more important than for first-intention arthroplasties, this series demonstrates that total hip prosthesis is a reliable solution for treating fixation failures of the upper femur.

Multicenter Study Clinical Trial[Pedicle closing-wedge osteotomy for the treatment of fixed sagittal imbalance].
The aim of this study was to analyze x-ray results in patients who underwent pedicle subtraction osteotomy for complex deformations (flat back, kyphosis) leading to fixed sagittal imbalance. ⋯ Pedicle subtraction osteotomy is an original operative technique reserved for specialized centers. A well-experienced team is needed to control the risks involved. Sagittal balance should be one of the important goals for modern spinal surgery.

Comparative Study[Intra- and postoperative fractures of the femur in total knee arthroplasty: risk factors in 32 cases].
We reviewed fractures of the distal femur occurring during or after total knee arthroplasty in order to identify risk factors. ⋯ This study shows that fracture of the distal femur occurs in certain preferential circumstances. Considering these elements, a certain number of preventive measures can be discussed for technical modifications or choice of implants.

[Tillaux fractures in teenagers: a review of nineteen cases].
Tillaux fractures in adolescents correspond to Salter and Harris type III fractures involving the anterolateral portion of the tibial epiphysis. These are intra-articular fractures. The objective was to determine the circumstances of these fractures, the radiological signs, and the therapeutic modalities as well as the long-term clinical and radiological outcome. ⋯ The prognosis of Tillaux fractures is good as was observed in our series and in series reported in the literature.
