This study aims to learn about the current situation of surgical massive blood transfusion of different surgical departments in China's Tertiary hospitals, which could provide the basis for the formulation of guidelines on massive blood transfusion. ⋯ Patients undergoing massive blood transfusion among different surgical departments have a certain difference in use of blood transfusion, mortality rate and the time of death. Our findings suggested that we should set up an independent transfusion program in cardiac surgery and trauma patients of massive blood transfusion.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) generally has a relatively favorable clinical course; however, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) was much more frequently progresses to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials to examine the effects of vitamin E supplementation in improving liver histology in NASH. We performed a comprehensive search of the PubMed, Embase and Cochrane databases through October 2014. ⋯ Compared with controls, vitamin E supplementation significantly improved all histological parameters, including steatosis (WMD = -0.62, 95% CI: -0.95, -0.77, P = 0.0002), hepatocyte ballooning (WMD = -0.30, 95% CI: -0.56, -0.04, P = 0.03), lobular inflammation (WMD = -0.39, 95% CI: -0.67, -0.11, P = 0.007) and fibrosis (WMD = -0.39, 95% CI: -0.72, -0.06, P = 0.02). Our analysis also indicated the absence of publication bias between NASH and Vitamin E intake. This meta-analysis indicates that vitamin E supplementation had a significant and positive effect in the improvement of steatosis, ballooning degeneration, lobular inflammation and fibrosis in patients with NASH.

Both target radiofrequency thermocoagulation and collagenase chemonucleolysis are effective micro-invasive therapy means for lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. In order to analyze the clinical effects of target radiofrequency thermocoagulation combined with collagenase chemonucleolysis on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation, the contents of hydroxyproline and glycosaminoglycan were measured and the histological changes of nucleus pulposus was detected in the vitro experiments. Radiofrequency thermocoagulation reduced the hydrolyzation of herniated nucleus pulposus caused by collagenase, as well as the content of hydroxyproline and glycosaminoglycan. ⋯ In the post-operative follow-up exam, 86.8% of the re-examined cases demonstrated smaller or ablated protrusion, with reduced IDH values from pre-operation, which was statistically significant. No serious complications were detected intra-operatively and post-operatively. In conclusion, target radiofrequency combined with collagenase chemonucleolysis was an effective and safe method for treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.

To determine functional connectivity of the default mode network in patients with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in resting state. ⋯ The posterior cingulate cortex, precuneus lobe, medial frontal gyrus, anterior cingulate cortex, temporal lobe, angular gyrus and inferior parietal lobule constitute a default mode of network in normal resting status. And patients with SNHL have abnormal functional connectivity of default mode network and cortical reorganisation in resting status.

This work aims to compare the curative effect of transumbilical single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (TUSPLC) and four-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (FPLC). 200 patients with cholecystolithiasis were enrolled in this study. They were randomly divided into TUSPLC group and FPLC group, 100 cases in each group, and the TUSPLC and FPLC was performed, respectively. The surgical time, intraoperative complication, conversions rate, postoperative pain, postoperative analgesic drug use, incision infection, postoperative hospitalization time and postoperative cosmetic results in two groups were compared. ⋯ TUSPLC has obvious advantage in treatment of Nassar grade I patients with cholecystolithiasis. It can be used as a supplement for standard laparoscopic gallbladder surgery. It is safe and feasible, without abdominal scar, thus achieving to excellent cosmetic result and high satisfaction in patients.
