Dexamethasone is known to produce analgesic effects, but the optimal analgesic dosage of dexamethasone remains unclear, especially in patients without postoperative use of other analgesics. The purpose of this study was to explore the effective analgesic dose of dexamethasone in day surgery patients undergoing painless abortion. ⋯ Intravenous injection of 0.2 mg/kg dexamethasone before induction of anesthesia can significantly reduce the VAS scores at 2 h after painless abortion.

Transpulmonary thermodilution measurement is a convenient method for hemodynamic monitoring. However, the previously reported indicator temperature was not consistent. This study aimed to compare the accuracy of Pulse index Continuous Cardiac Output (PiCCO) monitoring using indicators of different temperatures. ⋯ PiCCO measurements with either indicator temperatures showed positive correlation with TEE results (P<0.05). The 0°C indicator had universally higher correlation coefficients than the 8°C indicator. So, PiCCO monitoring with the 0°C indicator might have better accuracy than the 8°C indicator.

Sepsis-induced organ failure is the major cause of death, and is characterized by a massive dysregulated inflammatory response. The present study was to determine whether interleukin 6 (IL-6) expression was increased in sepsis rats and the roles of IL-6 in the damage of cardiac, liver and renal function in the sepsis rats. Sepsis rat models were elicited by intravenous injection of LPS. ⋯ IL-6 significantly reduced LVDP and average ±dP/dt, increased the activities of ALT and AST, and increased the concentration of creatinine in the sepsis rats. EX527, a sirtuin 1 (SIRT 1) inhibitor, blocked the effects of IL-6 in the sepsis rats. These results indicate that IL-6 plays important roles in the damage of cardiac, liver and renal function in the sepsis rats through SIRT 1.

To explore the effects of ventilatory mode "pressure controlled ventilation-volume guaranteed" (PCV-VG) on the inspiratory pressures, oxygenation parameters and hemodynamics of patients during one lung ventilation (OLV) for thoracic surgery, compared with volume controlled ventilation (VCV). ⋯ In patients undergoing thoracic surgery with OLV, pressure controlled volume guaranteed mode of ventilation may have better effects by decreasing inspiratory pressure parameters and improving arterial oxygenation than volume controlled ventilation.

Endovascular aortic repair was first performed nearly two decades ago and has become a well-established alternative therapy for many thoracoabdominal aortic diseases. Early survival results with the endovascular aortic repair were impressive, but it also brought many complications. Aortoesophageal fistula is little-known and may be underestimated because it is an unusual complication of thoracic endovascular aortic repair. ⋯ Selecting flexibility and appropriate size stent graft, avoiding the thin aortic wall, and identifying the risk factors may reduce the morbidity of complications with aortoesophageal fistula after thoracic aortic aneurysm endovascular repair.
