The purpose of our study was to observe the influence of dexmedetomidine on complications caused by hemabate in patients undergoing caesarean section. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine (0.5 μg kg(-1) and 1 μg kg(-1)) were all effective in preventing adverse reactions introduced by hemabate and improve parturients' satisfaction in patients undergoing cesarean delivery. And higher dose (1 μg kg(-1)) of dexmedetomidine is superior to lower dose (0.5 μg kg(-1)) in patient satisfaction.

This study aims to explore the preventive effect of dexamethasone gelatin sponge on the lumbosacral epidural adhesion in the laminectomy. ⋯ Dexamethasone gelatin sponge could significantly reduce the occurrence of epidural scar tissue hyperplasia and adhesion after laminectomy in rats, and its mechanism may be related to the decreased expression of VEGF and VEGFR2.

Although quantitative computed tomography (CT) has been used to analyze the lungs of patients with confirmed diagnoses of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), there are few reports to show the diagnosis during the early stage of ARDS. Using a canine model and quantitative CT, we aimed to develop an oleic acid (OA) induced ARDS regarding the early stage of ARDS that could improve in the early diagnosis of ARDS. ⋯ Quantitative CT analysis can detect ARDS at an early stage with high sensitivity and specificity, providing a minimum of assistance in the early diagnosis of ARDS.

The placement of a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) changes the relative positions of the common carotid artery (CCA) and right internal jugular vein (IJV), thereby affecting venipuncture via the right IJV. Therefore, we went on to determine the optimal site for puncturing the IJV after LMA-Supreme™ placement. In this study, forty-six patients were placed with a LMA-Supreme™ (size 3 or 4), and the right IJV was punctured at either of the three points (anterior, middle or posterior point). ⋯ Overlap between the right IJV and CCA at the anterior and middle points was significantly increased after size 3 LMA-Supreme™ placements; Size 4 masks decreased the CCA diameters at the middle and posterior points, and significantly increased overlap between the right IJV and CCA at all the three points; IJV punctures performed after placement of size 3 LMA-Supreme™ had higher success rate than those performed after placement of size 4 masks, and were less likely to result in accidental arterial puncture. In conclusion, our study demonstrated that placement of size 3 LMA-Supreme™ caused little change in overlapping between the right IJV and CCA and the incidence of accidental arterial puncture; particularly for punctures performed at the posterior point. Therefore, we recommend venipuncture at the posterior point after placement of a LMA-Supreme™.

Dezocine attenuates fentanyl-induced cough in a dose-dependent manner-a randomized controlled trial.
Fentanyl-induced cough (FIC) should be effectively prevented in patients requiring stable induction of general anesthesia. Our study was to evaluate the suppressive effects of different doses of intravenous dezocine on FIC during the induction of general anesthesia. A total of 400 patients of American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I and II were randomized into four groups (n = 100). ⋯ Group IV had lower incidence of FIC than Groups II (0% vs 12%; P = 0.0003) and III (0% vs 4%; P = 0.043). Our study showed that intravenous dezocine reduced the incidence of FIC during anesthetic induction. The suppressive effect was dose-dependent.
