Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Clinical study of prophylactic use of gentamicin and metronidazole in the surgery of colorectal carcinoma].
From Oct. 1989 to Apr. 1990, 16 patients with colorectal carcinoma undergoing elective radical resection were randomly divided into two groups to receive oral and combined (oral + i.v.) antimicrobials respectively. Patients in the oral group received preoperative oral gentamicin and metronidazole for two days, in the combined group oral medication was followed by the same antimicrobials intravenously during perioperative period. Quantitative bacterial cultures were performed before and after the regimen. ⋯ In the oral group, effective concentration of metronidazole were found in serum and tissues but gentamicin was undetected. In the combined group, effective concentrations of both gentamicin and metronidazole were detected. According to our results, the short-term preoperative oral medications combined with perioperative intravenous gentamicin and metronidazole prophylaxis appears to rational.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Hemodynamic effects of etomidate in cardiac surgery during induction of anesthesia].
For comparison of the induction effects of domestic etomidate on hemodynamics with gamma-OH, each group of thirty patients undergoing either repair of ASD or MVR was randomly selected. Certain hemodynamic parameters involving CI, SI, IC, MAP, HR and SVR (cardiac index, stroke volume index, index of contractility, mean artery pressure, heart rate and systemic vascular resistance) were followed throughout the course of induction. ⋯ MAP and SVR decreased 5 minutes after the administration of drugs (P less than 0.05), while the others showed no significant changes. We conclude that etomidate is superior to gamma-OH in patients for cardiac operations during induction.
