Gut Ischemia Reperfusion Injury Induces Lung Inflammation via Mesenteric Lymph-Mediated Neutrophil Activation.
Gut ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is a common clinical problem associated with significant mortality and morbidities that result from systemic inflammation and remote organ dysfunction, typically acute lung injury. The mechanisms underlying the dissemination of gut-derived harmful mediators into the circulation are poorly understood. The objective of our study was to determine the role of mesenteric lymphatic circulation in the systemic and pulmonary inflammatory response to gut I/R. ⋯ Moreover, post-I/R lymph upregulated neutrophil expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, which was mediated by a mechanism involving nuclear factor (NF)-κB signaling. Consistently, gut I/R activated NF-κB in lung neutrophils, which was alleviated by MLDL. In conclusion, all these data indicate that mesenteric lymph circulation contributes to neutrophil activation and lung inflammation following gut I/R injury partly through activating NF-κB.

Lower Circulating Interferon-Gamma Is a Risk Factor for Lung Fibrosis in COVID-19 Patients.
Cytokine storm resulting from SARS-CoV-2 infection is one of the leading causes of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and lung fibrosis. We investigated the effect of inflammatory molecules to identify any marker that is related to lung fibrosis in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Seventy-six COVID-19 patients who were admitted to Youan Hospital between January 21 and March 20, 2020 and recovered were recruited for this study. ⋯ Per the 1-SD increase of basal IFN-γ level in circulation, the fibrosis volume decreased by 0.070% (p = 0.04) at the discharge of participants. The basal circulating IFN-γ levels were comparable with c-reactive protein in the discrimination of the occurrence of lung fibrosis among COVID-19 patients at discharge, unlike circulating IL-6 levels. In conclusion, these data indicate that decreased circulating IFN-γ is a risk factor of lung fibrosis in COVID-19.

Crosstalk Between the MSI Status and Tumor Microenvironment in Colorectal Cancer.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) patients, especially those with deficient mismatch repair (dMMR)/microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) tumors, whose sensitivity to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is significantly higher than that of patients with microsatellite-stable (MSS)/microsatellite instability-low (MSI-L) tumors, have derived clinical benefits from immunotherapy. Most studies have not systematically evaluated the immune characteristics and immune microenvironments of MSI-H and MSS/MSI-L CRCs. We analyzed the relationship between the MSI status and prognosis of ICI treatment in an immunotherapy cohort. ⋯ In addition, subtype analysis showed that COAD and READ might have different immune microenvironments. MSI-H CRC may have an inflammatory tumor microenvironment and increased sensitivity to ICIs. Unlike those of MSI-H READ, the immune characteristics of MSI-H COAD may be consistent with those of MSI-H CRC.
