Review[Harmonization of hygienic standards with the foreign requirements for the quality of drinking water].
The concept of and criteria for harmonization of hygienic standards with the foreign requirements for the quality of drinking water were developed. On their basis, more than 100 sanitary standards for water substances were harmonized with the WHO and EC recommendations and the USA and Canadian standards for drinking water quality. ⋯ The paper provides evidence for the reliability and effectiveness of the Russian sanitary standardization system as to most standardized water substances. It also presents the harmonized standard normal values included into the documents of the water sanitary legislation of Russia.

Comparative Study[Iron provision and immunological responsiveness in athletic students in different seasons].
The studies of 39 highly skilled sambo wrestlers and 60 medical students from a study group ascertained that the dietary levels of iron in the students going in for sports was close to the physiological requirements in winter; it was twice less than the normal values. The daily balance of iron was negative. The trend of blood iron levels was pronouncedly seasonal. ⋯ At almost all stages of an all-year-round follow-up, the levels of iron in the plasma was lower while those in the formed elements were higher in the sportsmen than those in the untrained students. The immunological responsiveness changes largely depended on the season rather than the students' motor activity. At almost all the stages of the follow-up, the concentrations of T and B lymphocytes, phagocytic parameters, and the number of circulating immune complexes were significantly higher in highly skilled sportsmen than in the untrained students.

Comparative Study[Children's health status under ambient air pollution].
The present study was undertaken to comparatively assess the health status of organized preschool children living under varying man-made pollution. Pilot and control districts differing in the level of man-made ambient air pollution were identified. The morbidity and physical development of children in these areas were studied. Fewer healthy children and more ailing children, more children with dysfunctions of organs and systems, and more sick children, as well as more physically retarded children were detected in the higher man-made loaded district of an industrial town.
