The change of prostate cancer treatment in Korea: 5 year analysis of a single institution.
We analyzed changes to the trends of prostate cancer management and patient characteristics at a single institute during 5 years due to the significant increase of the prostate cancer incidence and the robotic equipment in Korea. ⋯ As the prostate cancer incidence increased in Korea, the proportion of localized and locally advanced cancer also increased. In addition, the main treatment modality changed from non-surgical treatment to radical prostatectomy.

Cerebral oxygenation during laparoscopic surgery: jugular bulb versus regional cerebral oxygen saturation.
We hypothesized that regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) could replace jugular bulb oxygen saturation (SjvO2) in the steep Trendelenburg position under pneumoperitoneum. Therefore, we evaluated the relationship between SjvO2 and rSO2 during laparoscopic surgery. ⋯ There is little correlation between SjvO2 and rSO2 in the supine position and Trendelenburg-pneumoperitoneum condition during laparoscopic surgery.

The influence of the severity of chronic virus-related liver disease on propofol requirements during propofol-remifentanil anesthesia.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of chronic virus- related liver disease severity on propofol requirements. ⋯ In this study, propofol requirements administered by target-controlled infusion to maintain similar depths of hypnosis were shown to depend on the severity of chronic virus-related liver dysfunction. In other words, patients with the most severe liver dysfunction required the least amount of propofol.

Case ReportsThoracic endovascular aortic repair with the chimney technique for blunt traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the aortic arch in a no-option patient.
A 42-year-old man was involved in a motor vehicle collision. Imaging studies revealed the presence of a post-traumatic aortic pseudo-aneurysm (about 34 × 26 cm) arising from the descending thoracic aorta at the level of the left subclavian artery (LSA), prone to rupture. ⋯ In this case, LSA needed to be covered in order to extend the proximal landing zone. Eventually, modified TEVAR was successfully performed by means of the chimney technique to preserve flow to the LSA and to prevent flow into the pseudoaneurysmal sac.

Case ReportsTwo cases of mushroom poisoning by Podostroma cornu-damae.
Podostroma cornu-damae is a rare fungus that houses a fatal toxin in its fruit body. In this case report, two patients collected and boiled the wild fungus in water, which they drank for one month. ⋯ We found a piece of Podostroma cornu-damae in the remaining clusters of mushrooms. Mushroom poisoning by Podostroma cornu-damae has never been previously reported in Korea.
