Continued Upward Trend in Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria Isolation over 13 Years in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Korea.
Despite decreased prevalence of tuberculosis, the incidence of the diseases associated with nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) has been increasing in South Korea and around the world. The present retrospective study was conducted to determine longitudinal changes in the epidemiology and distribution of NTM over 13 years at a tertiary care hospital in Korea. ⋯ The number of NTM isolates continuously increased over the study period, and the increase in the proportion of M.intracellulare in patients aged over 70 years was notable.

Influence of the Amount of Fresh Specimen on the Isolation of Tumor Mesenchymal Stem-Like Cells from High-Grade Glioma.
A critical indicator of the overall survival of patients with high-grade glioma is the successful isolation of tumor mesenchymal stem-like cells (tMSLCs), which play important roles in glioma progression. However, attempts to isolate tMSLCs from surgical specimens have not always been successful, and the reasons for this remain unclear. Considering that the amount of surgical high-grade glioma specimens varies, we hypothesized that larger surgical specimens would be better for tMSLC isolation. ⋯ Our results suggested a minimum criterion for specimen collection, and found that the specimen amount was not deeply related to tMSLC detection. Collectively, our findings imply that the ability to isolate tMSLCs is determined by factors other than the specimen amount.

Prevalence of Dementia in Korea Based on Hospital Utilization Data from 2008 to 2016.
Dementia is an important health issue in Korea due to its associated medical costs. Our study aimed to estimate the prevalence of dementia in Korea by analyzing hospital utilization rates. ⋯ Our results demonstrated that hospital utilization for dementia increased significantly from 2008 to 2016, reflecting a proportional increase in the prevalence of dementia. Korean healthcare policy must prioritize dementia treatment.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement versus Sutureless Aortic Valve Replacement: A Single Center Retrospective Cohort Study.
This study sought to compare clinical outcomes between transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and sutureless aortic valve replacement (SU-AVR). ⋯ TAVR achieved a similar 1-year survival rate free from cardiovascular mortality as SU-AVR and was associated with a lower incidence of complications, except for paravalvular leakage, and shorter stays in the ICU and hospital.

Mortality of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Using Data from a Large-Scale Korean National Cohort.
This study aimed to investigate the association between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis and mortality among children using the data from a large-scale national cohort of Korean infants and children. We also explored the association between hearing impairment detected during early infancy and mortality. ⋯ ASD diagnosis was associated with higher mortality among Korean children. This association was stronger in girls than in boys. Hearing impairment detected during infancy was also associated with higher mortality among children diagnosed with ASD.
