Renal colic is a common reason for presentation to emergency departments, and imaging has become fundamental for the diagnosis and clinical management of this condition. Ultrasonography and particularly noncontrast computed tomography have good diagnostic performance in diagnosing renal colic. ⋯ It is essential to use computed tomography techniques that minimize radiation and to use alternatives like ultrasonography in pregnant patients and children. In this article, we review the epidemiology, clinical and radiologic presentations, and clinical management of ureteral lithiasis.

This article aims to review the state of the art in ablation techniques for hepatic lesions. In addition to discussing the indications, outcomes, and potential complications of the technique, we illustrate the spectrum of imaging findings after treatment. Recent years have seen the development of a wide variety of minimally invasive techniques to treat liver cancer. ⋯ Radiofrequency ablation can be performed using any imaging technique, although it is most commonly performed under ultrasound guidance. CT and MRI show the degree of tumor necrosis better and are more frequently employed in follow up. This article reviews the indications and contraindications for the procedure, potential complications, long-term outcome, and imaging findings for percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of hepatic tumors.

[Pott's Puffy tumor: a forgotten complication of sinusitis].
Pott's puffy tumor is a rare entity characterized by a swelling of the scalp due to a subperiosteal abscess associated to osteomyelitis in the frontal bone. It is often associated with a complication of frontal sinusitis or trauma. Undiagnosed or partially treated frontal sinusitis can lead to Pott's puffy tumor, which requires rapid medical and surgical intervention to prevent complications that increase morbidity and mortality. ⋯ We present a case of Pott's puffy tumor in a 15-year-old boy. This case is even more unusual because the tumor became complicated with orbital and intracranial involvement. The findings at computed tomography provided the key to the diagnosis in this patient.

[Positron-emission tomography/computed tomography: artifacts and pitfalls in cancer patients].
Diagnostic accuracy and correct initial staging (or restaging) are fundamental in the management of oncological patients and can directly influence therapeutic decisions. The combination of positron-emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) in a single scanner (PET/TC) represents an important achievement in the fields of oncology, nuclear medicine, and radiology. These scanners allow morphologic images (obtained by CT) to be fused and correlated with metabolic images (obtained by PET) to a high degree of accuracy. ⋯ Furthermore, the use of CT data to correct attenuation and reconstruct PET images in PET/CT scanners can generate some characteristic artifacts specific to this new diagnostic tool, and these can lead to misinterpretation with potential therapeutic implications. This article reviews and illustrates some of the most common artifacts and pitfalls that can appear in PET/CT studies. The detection and correct interpretation of these findings are essential for the appropriate management of oncologic patients.

Neurocysticercosis, caused by the larvae of Taenia solium, is the parasitic infection that most commonly involves the central nervous system in humans. Neurocysticercosis is endemic in practically all developing countries, and owing to globalization and immigration it is becoming more common in developed countries like those in western Europe. ⋯ The imaging findings depend on the larval stage of Taenia solium, on the number and location of the parasites (parenchymal, subarachnoid, or intraventricular), as well as on the host's immune response (edema, gliosis, arachnoiditis) and on the development of secondary lesions (arteritis, infarcts, or hydrocephalus). The diagnosis of this parasitosis must be established on the basis of the clinical and radiological findings, especially in the appropriate epidemiological context, with the help of serological tests.
