To present our preliminary experience in whole-body MRI with an added diffusion-weighted sequence in screening for osseous metastases. ⋯ Whole-body MRI with an added diffusion-weighted sequence is an efficacious method of detecting osseous metastases and is more reliable than bone scintigraphy. Moreover, whole-body MRI provides information about extraosseous lesions. Lytic metastases are hyperintense in diffusion-weighted sequences and have a lower ADC than benign edema.

[Is H1N1 flu different from seasonal flu on initial plain chest films?].
To determine whether there are differences in the findings on the initial plain chest films of patients with H1N1 influenza and those of patients with flu symptoms during the flu season. ⋯ We found significant differences between the radiologic findings of patients with H1N1 influenza (severe) and those of patients with symptoms of flu during the flu season: the incidence of multifocal patchy consolidation was greater in H1N1 patients and H1N1 patients were younger.

To evaluate the role of MRI in the early diagnosis and therapeutic assessment of pyomyositis. ⋯ Pyomyositis is a primary bacterial infection of skeletal muscle. In recent years pyomyositis has increasingly been diagnosed even in patients without predisposing factors. There is a male predominance. Imaging is essential for the diagnosis of the pyomyositis, and radiologists play a crucial role in the early diagnosis of this infection. MRI is the imaging method of choice for characterizing the infection.

Although the initial diagnosis and follow-up of pleuropulmonary disease are normally done with plain chest films and the gold standard for chest disease is computed tomography, diverse studies have established the usefulness of chest ultrasonography in the diagnosis of different pleuropulmonary diseases like pleural effusion and lung consolidation, among others. In this article, we show the different ultrasonographic patterns for pleuropulmonary disease. ⋯ Moreover, ultrasonography is noninvasive and easy to repeat. On the other hand, it enables the direct visualization of pleuropulmonary disease that is necessary for interventional procedures.

The aim of our study was to directly evaluate the effectiveness of percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD) for treatment of lumbar discogenic radicular pain. ⋯ PLDD is effective treatment for lumbar discogenic radicular pain, associated with only minimal discomfort to the patient. This minimally invasive technique is a valid alternative for those patients not responding to conservative medical treatment, allowing in many cases to obviate the need of spine surgery.
