The most common treatment in recurrent malignant ascites is generally temporary peritoneal drainage. We present our experience in placing permanent tunneled catheters in a series of patients and analyze the safety and efficacy of the treatment. ⋯ Although the low number of patients in our series precludes generalizations, tunneled peritoneal catheters seem to be a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment for malignant ascites in terminal oncologic patients. This approach facilitates the draining of the ascites at home, obviating the need for repeated hospital visits and punctures and the risks involved therein. Nevertheless, further experience and prospective randomized trials are necessary.

The radiologist plays a crucial role in the multidisciplinary management of patients with multiple trauma. In the last few decades, technological advances and changes in the healthcare culture have led to changes in the imaging work-up of multiple trauma patients, with emphasis shifting from plain-film radiography to whole-body multidetector CT. This article describes the evolution of the different protocols and the current practice in the management of patients with multiple trauma. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the radiologist must decide on the best imaging technique and protocol for each situation in function of the technological resources available.

This paper describes the specific tasks of the neuropsychologist in a medical imaging department during the study of the relations between the brain and behavior. The neuropsychologist's role as a member of a multidisciplinary team centers on paradigm design (motor, visual, language, memory, etc.), supervising subjects' (patients' or controls') behavior during functional magnetic resonance acquisition, and interpreting the results. Thus, it is essential for the neuropsychologist to know the characteristics, possibilities, and limitations of the imaging technique as well as aspects directly related to neuropsychology, such as cognitive processes and their components. We also introduce some common concepts in functional magnetic resonance and review some of the paradigms that are most frequently employed in clinical concepts.

Physicians need fast access to quality information about the best diagnostic tests and treatments in each case. To meet this need, a new publishing format has emerged. Critically appraised topics (CATs) are elaborated following the five steps of evidence-based medicine. ⋯ CATs have proven useful in teaching evidence-based radiology and this publishing format is becoming more common. Radiology CATs can be found on medical websites and in journals, including those dedicated to general medicine as well as those specifically dedicated to radiology. Radiología encourages the publication of CATs because we consider that they can be useful for daily decision making.

Radiología is the official journal of the Spanish Society of Diagnostic Imaging. It aims to contribute to the education of Spanish-speaking radiologists and to disseminate radiological research and knowledge in Spanish. ⋯ Moreover, the details of the journal's editorial process are revealed, including the editorial circuit, the reviewers' work, and the technical aspects of the final edition process. Finally, the article lists qualitative and quantitative data about the material that Radiología receives and publishes.
