Association between Low Back Pain and Neck Pain: A 3-Year Longitudinal Study Using the Data of the People after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Low back pain (LBP) and neck pain (NP) are common health problems worldwide. LBP often coexists with NP; however, the association between these pains remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to clarify the association between LBP and NP, focusing on dose-dependent effects. ⋯ Adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) were 2.44 (1.62-3.68) for "1" and 2.68 (1.77-4.05) for "≥ 2" in frequency when the absence of LBP was used as a reference (p for trend < 0.001). LBP is associated with NP in a dose-dependent manner. The association between LBP and NP should be considered to effectively treat these pains.

Serum Cell Division Cycle 42 before and after Programmed Death-1 Inhibitor Therapy in Advanced Melanoma Patients: Correlation with Tumor Features, Clinical Response, and Survival.
Cell division cycle 42 (CDC42) mediates immune escape in cancers. This study aimed to investigate linkages of CDC42 with tumor features, treatment response, and survival in advanced melanoma patients receiving programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitors. Pre-treatment and post-treatment (after 2 cycles) serum CDC42 of 35 advanced melanoma patients receiving PD-1 inhibitor was assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. ⋯ The 12-month PFS rate was 12.5% and 62.0%, and the 12-month OS rate was 42.3% and 88.0% in patients with post-treatment with CDC42 > 700 pg/mL and ≤ 700 pg/mL, accordingly. Furthermore, post-treatment with CDC42 > 700 pg/mL was independently related to PFS [hazard ratio (HR): 2.704, P = 0.029 and OS (HR: 7.749, P = 0.005)]. Elevated CDC42 correlates with advanced TNM, abnormal LDH, worse clinical response, and dismal survival in advanced melanoma patients receiving PD-1 inhibitors.

Fondaparinux Results in Similar Pregnancy Outcomes with Lower Adverse Reaction Rates Compared to Low Molecular Weight Heparin in Chinese Recurrent Miscarriage Women.
Fondaparinux inhibits thrombin generation by inactivating factor Xa, which has the potential to treat recurrent miscarriage (RM). However, more clinical evidence is required to support its application in Chinese women with RM. This research aimed to compare the live birth rate, gestational weeks at delivery, birth weight, Apgar score of newborns, and adverse reaction rates between fondaparinux and low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in Chinese women with RM. ⋯ It was also observed that gestational weeks at delivery (38.1 ± 1.4 vs. 37.7 ± 1.7 weeks) (P = 0.258), birth weight (2,923.7 ± 355.0 vs. 2,807.8 ± 334.0 g) (P = 0.144), and Apgar score of newborns (9.8 ± 0.5 vs. 9.6 ± 0.8) (P = 0.175) were not different between the fondaparinux cohort and LMWH cohort. Inspiringly, the total adverse reaction rate was reduced in the fondaparinux cohort vs. the LMWH cohort (20.0% vs. 37.9%) (P = 0.036). Fondaparinux results in similar pregnancy outcomes with lower adverse reaction rates compared to LMWH in Chinese women with RM.

Evaluation of Statistical Approaches in Developing a Predictive Model of Severe COVID-19 during Early Phase of Pandemic with Limited Data Resources.
As evidence of risk factors for severe cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was uncertain in early phases of the pandemic, the development of an efficient predictive model for severe cases to triage high-risk individuals represented an urgent yet challenging issue. It is crucial to select appropriate statistical models when available data and evidence are limited. This study was conducted to assess the accuracy of different statistical models in predicting severe cases using demographic data from patients with COVID-19 prior to the emergence of consequential variants. ⋯ The benefit of performing feature selection with a training dataset before building models was seen in some models, but not in all models. In summary, the naïve Bayes and RF models exhibited ideal predictive performance even with limited available data. The benefit of performing feature selection before building models with limited data resources depended on machine learning methods and parameters.

The Transition of Pediatric Tracheobronchial Foreign Body Cases in the Past 36 Years: A Retrospective Single-Center Study in Japan.
Tracheobronchial foreign bodies (TFBs) are pediatric airway emergencies frequently seen. We aimed to examine the changes in the clinical characteristics of pediatric TFB patients in a single institution within the past 36 years. We retrospectively reviewed the data of 85 patients aged 0-10 years with TFBs lodged in the trachea or bronchus admitted at the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Tohoku University Hospital between 1986 and 2021. ⋯ Foreign body extraction using rigid bronchoscopy was performed in all patients earlier, whereas flexible bronchoscopy was used in 14.3% later. Our study revealed a recent trend in the clinical characteristics of pediatric TFB patients in a single institution in Northeast Japan. The prevention and treatment of pediatric TFBs should be considered following the recent trends.
