The right of patient to information is closely connected with the problems of consent to medical procedures. The prerequisite of adequate expression of consent is sufficient amount of knowledge about own health condition, accurate picture of the illness, probable advantages and risk of suggested treatment as well as possible alternative medical techniques with their benefits and risks and consequences of giving them up. ⋯ To solve research problems of this paper the method of diagnostic survey was applied with the use of questionnaire technique. The study carried out among 141 doctors and 353 patients has shown that: the range of information given by doctors depends on their position, degree of specialization and general knowledge of patient's rights (p < 0.05) and the range and quality of information obtained by patients from doctors depend on the sex of patients, their age, marital status and educational level (p < 0.05).

Comparative Study
[Comparison of nutrition status of middle school children from Bialystok and its vicinity].
Nutrition state of gymnasium pupils living in the country and towns was evaluated. The study included 294 schoolchildren, boys and girls, drawn by lot from two public middle schools. The current body height and mass were assessed with regard to centile chart age norms. ⋯ The percentage of overweight boys living in town is high (25%); young people of both sexes living in the country show overweight in approximately 17%. About 13% of school children living in town and 7% from the country are underweight. The results indicate that in the group of school children involved in the study early prevention against obesity and chronic underweight should be employed.

Comparative Study
[Somatic development of seven-year-old Silesian children in view of environment pollution].
Silesia is a very variable area as far as industrialization and urban development are concerned. This involves a variation of material--living conditions of its inhabitants; and this, together with the pollution of natural environment, influences the people's health state. Children are the most vulnerable to environmental stimuli. ⋯ The remaining children were smaller or close to the standard. The children of Miasteczko Slaskie and Pyskowice clearly surpassed in weight, body height and BMI their peers from Szczawnica. The weight and height of seven-year-old children, especially boys, seems to be a good/sensitive indicator of the influence of environmental conditions on children's development.
