Physical and psychological sequelae at three months after acute illness in COVID-19 survivors.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may leave behind an altered health status early after recovery. We evaluated the clinical status of COVID-19 survivors at three months after hospital discharge. ⋯ Clinical damage may persist at three months after discharge in COVID-19 survivors. Post-recovery follow-up is an essential component of patient management.

Can SSRI/SNRI antidepressants decrease the 'cytokine storm' in the course of COVID-19 pneumonia?
Lots of research has been conducted to fight COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020. The role of "cytokine storm" in the pathogenesis of COVID-19 pneumonia is well known. Relationship between interleukins and depression is still subject matter of the research, but a correlation between interleukin-6 and depressive disorders is proven by now. The aim of this study is to verify differences among interleukin-6 blood levels of inpatients treated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and/or serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor before and during hospitalization and of inpatients not treated with these drugs. ⋯ During COVID-19 pneumonia, the production of interleukin-6 seems to be modulated in presence of antidepressant therapy. Further proofs and broader surveys are necessary.

In addition to diagnosing acute myocardial infarction (MI), the electrocardiogram (ECG) may also predict the culprit coronary artery. We aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of ECG algorithms predicting the occluded vessel in inferior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). ⋯ A new approach summating multiple ST-segment deviations generated ECG algorithms with higher diagnostic accuracy to predict the occluded vessel in inferior STEMI compared to previous studies. These algorithms may facilitate earlier risk stratification for patients at risk of postinfarct complications.

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic condition characterized by an elevation of blood glucose levels, resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The prevalence of the disease has been rapidly rising all over the globe at an alarming rate. ⋯ The treatment spectrum for the management of diabetes mellitus has rapidly developed in recent years, with new class of therapeutics and expanded indications. This article focused on the emerging therapeutic approaches other than the conventional pharmacological therapies, which include stem cell therapy, gene therapy, siRNA, nanotechnology and theranostics.
